Most of the time when you asked “what changed since the 70s-80s” the answer is going to be “the internet.” It’s like people like to forget just how massive of an impact that makes on everyone’s daily life.

Anyway. On one hand there’s what ic said above. On the other, back then if the random teacher in Texas even got caught without the internet, then you didn’t hear about it without the unlimited access to information that you have now.

Beyond that, the way we look at sexual relationships was a bit different. I mean, there's still a lot of "way to go, kid" responses when a male student hooks up with a female teacher, even though if we take a step back we know that it should be considered just as bad as a male teacher and female student.

And I don't know about you guys, but my teachers were almost always north of 40 when I was a student in the late 70s and 80s. I honestly can't remember a single female teacher that I had at any point, elementary through high school, that was under 30 and probably not under 35. Maybe one or two male teachers. Other than that, just the occasional student teacher, but they were temporary. I feel like there are more young teachers now.

See, that last part, that's what I was kind of assuming. It feels like even if female teachers were banging male students and it was found out about that there was usually not a firing, and almost never legal charges. But I suppose I'm just guessing based on how I remember/perceive the culture at the time. I never knew of any of that going on, because as mentioned above my teachers were old. If some dude was banging one of them, I don't think it would be something to brag about. He'd be ridiculed.

I had a half a year of French in 8th grade, 1974. She was absolutely the hottest teacher I ever had.

To Miami's point, she was also the only teacher I ever had who was under 40.

My wife's high school Class of 84, featured the shop teacher marrying a girl the fall after she graduated. Also, having a baby that fall. I'm not very good at math but.....

It is my understanding he kept his job throught the 80's and retired in the early 90's. I will ask her tonight, but I believe I'm correct.

I have those two examples off the top of my head. I guess I could think up a few more. But my point is that it probably was happening.

I also. have no doubt we had more or the same instances of kidnapping, child abuse, women gone missing all that stuff. We just didn't have the internet.

Yeah, I agree with these. I do think it is more frequent (per capita) and more out in the open vs. covered up in rumor and innuendo. The internet, like this message board let's people hide a bit, feel around a bit. I think it even builds intrigue for some folks.

Charli Jones Parker, 31, was convicted of having intercourse with two male 16-year-old students while she was a teacher at Pickens Academy. Now she wants her case overturned, claiming that a law prohibiting sex with students is unconstitutional, according to Tuscaloosa News.

Her appeal comes after a Morgan County Circuit Court judge ruled in August that the law violated an equal protection clause which affords teachers the same treatment in court as other professions.

A Greenville County teacher has been charged for sex crimes involving a student and for lying to police after deputies said they caught her partially undressed in a vehicle with a student.

Deputies said Elizabeth Heaton Taylor, 27, was charged with two counts of sexual battery with a student between 16-17 years of age and false information to police.

Deputies said the arrest was made Thursday evening after deputies said they observed a white Ford Explorer parked suspiciously at an address on Holland Road in Simpsonville.

Greenville County Schools said Taylor was a Biology teacher and track coach at Greer High School. She is no longer employed by the school district.
