Something for everyone - in addition to the 12th annual AuSable Valley Engine and Tractor Club Show.
Masons hosting 28th annual fishing derby this weekend
And don't forget -
It's kind of like the Indy 500 only slower.....and shorter.
Masons hosting 28th annual fishing derby this weekend
MIO — Anglers looking to see how their skills stack up against area competition will have the chance to do so at the 28th annual fishing derby this weekend.
Bob Hoffman of the Mio Masonic Lodge said the organization has been hosting the event for the past three years, but it dates back more than a quarter-century.
“This is the 28th year overall, and there’s probably been five organizations that have put it on up to this point,” Hoffman said.
The event, which will be held at the Mio Pond, is slated to begin at noon June 25 and end at noon June 26.
Hoffman said prizes will be awarded to the anglers who claim the first and the heaviest pike, walleye and bass.
And don't forget -
FAIRVIEW — Community members will have the chance to witness the history and evolution of farming at the 12th annual AuSable Valley Engine and Tractor Club Show.
The event is slated for June 24-25 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oscoda County Fairgrounds.
Tractor and machine exhibits, gas engines and related machinery, garden tractors, grain threshing, farm implements, buzz saws, corn shelling, tractor pulling, a flea market and swap meet will all be featured at the show.
It's kind of like the Indy 500 only slower.....and shorter.

Heathen. Yesterday would have been my Grandma's 121st birthday, she's been dead for 27 years now but I still get cravings for her popcorn. I have no idea what she did with it but it was the best - well that and her caramel corn. Maybe it was because she grew the popcorn?

I really like stale popcorn. Day old popcorn is the best. I don't know if that makes me a monster but I'm putting it out there.

Perhaps they need your help - but maybe not, they've somehow held on for 84 years without you.
What it is for someone that doesn't look for the worst possible thought is a great place to take your kids and enjoy the outdoors.

Bob, sorry to tell you that hanging out with your kids around a campfire or while canoeing/tubing doesn't signal pedophile behavior to normal people.
Also it's not paneling - it's knotty pine, once you spend a little time up north you'll know the difference.

Festivities plentiful this Fourth of July weekend
OSCODA COUNTY — Residents and visitors will have a number of opportunities to celebrate their independence and enjoy one another’s company this Fourth of July weekend.
The festivities will get under way July 2 in Luzerne.
The day will include kids’ games, crafts, goat poop bingo, a horseshoe tournament at noon at the American Legion Post 162, a garage sale at the Luzerne Fire Hall and a parade at 4 p.m. The theme for the floats this year is “Luzerne Legends: Stomping Grounds of Bigfoot.”
Prizes will be awarded to the top three floats, and there will be a kids’ bike decorating contest. There will also be a Bigfoot look-alike contest, with $100 going to the winner.
The Legion will also be hosting a cookout from noon to 4 p.m. The cost is $7 and will feature a number of grilled meats and all of the fixings.
Fireworks will be set off after dusk at the Luzerne Express Campground.
The festivities are hosted by the Luzerne district of the Chamber of Commerce for Oscoda County. For more information, call 989-826-5950.
The spotlight will shift to the Skyline Event Center July 3 beginning at 5 p.m.
Clinton Township will be hosting a slew of activities for the family to enjoy, including games, face painting, wagon rides, vendors, a bounce house for the kids and a mechanical bull for all brave enough to attempt it.
Chester’s Habit is slated to take the stage at 5 p.m., and The Jon Archambault Band will perform at 7 p.m. Fireworks are set to light up the sky after dark.
For more information, call the Skyline Event Center at 888-352-4762 or the Chamber of Commerce for Oscoda County at 989-826-3331.
On July 4, a parade will also float through Comins starting at 11 a.m. A free lunch provided by the Comins Mennonite Church will be served at Comins Township Hall following the parade.
For more information, call the chamber at 989-826-3331.
In Mio, Independence Day celebrations begin at 9 a.m. July 4 on the courthouse lawn with a craft show and other activities. The parade is slated to make its way through town starting at 2 p.m., and the fireworks show is scheduled to be held at 33 Motosports Park in Mio after dusk.
