He’s playing at Irving Plaza in March I should try to check it out. I really like the song Give Her The Gun as well. This stuff is definitely growing on me.

I listened to Lights Out a few times. It definitely has a few songs that have caught my ear and I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I'm going to give Phenomenon another listen. I was originally drawn to that album because of Rock Bottom but my first listen I thought it sounded pretty thin compared to the incredible live performance I found on youtube.

Also, you mentioned a ted nugent album in a thread a little while ago...my memory could be off but I think it involved getting pulled over by the cops and that album was on. I might have that wrong. What was that album called. I remember checking it out after you posted that and I liked it but it escapes me now.

His 1st (and best) solo album - Ted Nugent self titled.

But like UFO if I had to pick one album of his it would be a live album - Double Live Gonzo.

Got reminded of this band yesterday and listened to their whole (only) album again last night.....pretty damned good for a band that only released one album way back in '99. Amazon has it streaming so I assume others do as well.

You wonder what happened to groups like this, the talent is obviously there.

Yes!   How was the show??
It was great.  They're no spring chickens, but still energetic and play to the crowd well.  As you can see from the picture, I was up close (2nd "row", to whatever extent there is a row and the stage was only like 3 feet high).  Good mix of stuff.

I'm not a really a Flotsam and Jetsam fan, but respect them for being pretty fucking old and still doing their thing.

I also want to give a shout out to one of the other opening bands, Seven Kingdoms.  There were four Florida-based opening bands, so they won't be at Harpo's.  But Seven Kingdoms is not just a local scene band.  They aren't huge, but they've put out 4 CDs and have toured the US and Europe opening for Blind Guardian and Stratovarius, two Power Metal legends, on separate tours.  I've seen them headline a couple of times at little bars down here.  They have a female lead, which I usually don't like, but the tone of her voice clicks for me.  I was one of the only ones there last night that really know their songs, and was in the front singing along, and several times, she kept singing right to me.  A couple of people looked at me, probably wondering if she was hot for me...then upon seeing me, probably thought I was her dad.  It's definitely neither, she just appreciated someone singing along with her.  Anyway, they're a good power/speed metal band, if anyone wants to check them out.  I know that power metal is not really the cup of tea of most here, though.

Never heard of them but I like that song. I can see why they were booked with Hammerfall, similar styles. I like speed metal with decent vocals. Never been much for the growling school of metal.

So did you have a beer with her after the show?

I talked with her a bit after...and her husband, who is the lead guitarist. They do seem like good people to have a beer with, though.

Miami and Wags in a few years....

Elderly Men Escape Nursing Home To Attend World's Biggest Heavy Metal Festival

According to Deutsche Welle, two elderly elderly German men escaped from their nursing home on Friday (August 3) to attend the Wacken Open Air festival.

The nursing home contacted the police after it discovered that the men were missing from the facility. The men were later found at 3 a.m. at the heavy metal festival, which is celebrating its 29th anniversary this year in Wacken, Germany.

Police escorted the men home with the help of a taxi and a patrol car.

This year's Wacken Open Air is sold out, with more than 75,000 metal fans in attendance. Headliners include JUDAS PRIEST, DANZIG, HATEBREED, IN FLAMES, RUNNING WILD and ARCH ENEMY.

Rumors all over the interewebz that Brian Johnson and Phil Rudd have been spotted in Vancouver. This a few days after Stevie Young was seen there. AC/DC recorded their last 3 albums in Vancouver - so they may be getting the old gang back together.

Helloween kicks off their pretty limited US tour tonight in Vegas. If I'd thought about it I should have gone to see them in Vegas, then gone to the MSU game tomorrow. Oh well, Helloween has a few other stops so I never considered Vegas.

My favorite band, who I haven't seen in concert in 29 years (never played within 1,000 miles of me since), and who brought back their first two lead singers, along with their third/current one for an epic tour that has been going on around the world since last year. And now the old and new crew are all going to team up for the next studio album, too. For me, this is all a bit like The Beatles getting back together (except for the fact that it doesn't require raising the dead to get all of these guys back together...well, except for their original drummer, Ingo Schwictenberg).
