Jaren Jackson to MSU - Big News

Post by LooseGoose on Thu Sep 15, 2016 7:01 am

Jaren Jackson, the No. 26 overall prospect in the ESPN 100 rankings, has committed to play at Michigan State.

Ranked the No. 5 power forward in the Class of 2017, Jackson chose the Spartans over Georgetown, Maryland, Notre Dame and Purdue on Thursday, his 17th birthday.

"I didn't plan it this way," Jackson said. "I have done all my homework on each school ... and discussed everything with my family, and the timing just happened to land on my birthday," Jackson said. "When you have a Hall of Fame coach like Tom Izzo, it makes a statement about the program.

"Coach Izzo has established a culture and an attitude of winning and I want to be part of that. He does a great job at developing his talent too."

Izzo was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame over the weekend and made an immediate recruiting trip to see Jackson on Sunday after the ceremony. The visit made quite an impression on Jackson

Based entirely on watching one 3 minute YouTube clip the kid seems gangly as hell. Already has more of an offensive game than Deyonta Davis but is nowhere near as athletic. Looks like a good player I guess. I don't know what he is, his frame suggests he's a 4 but he doesn't have that strength and explosion to bang in the paint. His offensive game suggests he's a 3 but I'm not sure he's quick enough to guard that position.
Either way he seems like a long-bodied well skilled player. Should be interesting.

Scout's Take: ESPN 100 PF Jaren Jackson commits to Michigan State

What he brings: Jackson's long frame, athletic ability and deep shooting range make him a dream stretch power forward. He can make open shots beyond the arc and from the midrange areas as well. Jackson can also successfully defend the power forward position. His shot making ability sets up straight-line drives, which are hard for opposing, less mobile power forwards to defend. In the post Jackson scores equally as well with his lefty jump hook or smooth turnaround jumper over defenders. Jackson can rebound on both ends but favors the offensive glass. He also gets his share of blocked shots on the ball or coming to the aid of a teammate from the weak side. Jackson is a big time shooter for his size and has off-the-charts upside.

Who he reminds us of: Jackson's length, skill, face-up game, rebounding, shot blocking and overall versatility bring to mind a combination of Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat and Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers.

Jaren Jackson Jr. picks Michigan State, gives Spartans a 5-star 2017 commitment

LA PORTE, Ind. -- Michigan State started its 2017 recruiting cycle in a big way: with a commitment from 5-star prospect Jaren Jackson.

Jackson, a 6-foot-10 power forward who plays for La Lumiere School, announced his commitment on Thursday morning on his Twitter page.

Jackson is Michigan State's first commitment in the 2017 class and gives the Spartans a significant piece to work around moving forward. Moreover, in 2017-18, he could join a sophomore class of Miles Bridges, Josh Langford, Cassius Winston and Nick Ward -- the Spartans' highly touted, top-five 2016 class -- if everyone returns for a second year of college ball. (See full scholarship chart at the bottom of this page.)

Michigan State is also recruiting three of Jackson's teammates at La Lumiere, none more so than five-star 2017 small forward Brian Bowen, a Saginaw native. The Spartans also have interest in 2017 center Jacob Epperson, and Australian import, and highly-regarded 2019 point guard Tyger Campbell.

But Jackson is the first piece. With his addition, regardless of attrition, MSU still has four open scholarships for the 2017 class. Playing with Jackson will be a selling point to the likes of five-star talents like point guard Quade Green, shooting guard Gary Trent Jr., and small forwards Kris Wilkes and Nojel Eastern.

Look Bob. We're all sorry you caught your girlfriend gangbanging a trainload of MSU athletes in your past. I know it hurt. But Jesus, let it go. Always remember it wasn't you. It was just her insatiable desire for penis and lots of it at the same time.

But let it go. It's no reason to marginalize the athletes of today. It's not their fault. I doubt you were gonna get married anyway.

Btw, are you Doug karsch in real life?

I am on record predicting that Jaren Jackson will be national player of the year. Can switch out on ball screens, recover in time to block shots, rebound, get into passing lanes.

I mean, the first thing with pea soup is the texture, okay?
I've had watery pea soup, it's AWFUL.
Uh, I've had gelatinous, thick pea soup, it's TERRIBLE.
Pea soup, much like clam chowder, needs to have that consistency first, that you can stand the spoon up in it, but the spoon soon tilts, that's the consistency you want.
Number two: Uh, pea soup on it's own can be a little bland. It wants, uh, a fairly aggressive peppering and salting.
Number three: Pea soup needs a fine dice of ham. Not bacon, not any other meat, not turkey. It needs a fine dice of ham.
Uh, number four: Uh, pea soup scorches easily. You don't wanna heat it on a high heat. You wanna heat it on medium low, just until it's warmed through.
Uh, number five: Pea soup is best made, uh, by hand, not out of a Campbell's can. And the key to pea soup, you want a ham bone, uh, for the stock you make, uh, to, to boil your peas.

Jackson has a ton of potential. If he stuck around another year, he could win POY. This year? Highly unlikely.

Hell...on our team alone he'd have to outshine Bridges...and that's not happening.

Duke has some pretty good FR too. Bagley, Trent Jr., Carter Jr.,...

3 FR coming in 6'8" - 6'9" - 6'10" - Kithier, Brown & Bingham - the latter 2 probably providing immediate minutes.
Tillman & Goins.....

So a 5 member frontcourt at least.

And if Jackson/Ward both leave there would be room for an equal number of new recruits or transfers.
