long time, hardcore fans know this version of Incident.. from the Main Point. With Suki Lakhov on violin and the siren as the song closes..

Bruce and the band opened with this tune when I surprised my mom by flying to North Carolina years ago (maybe about 1999-2000) and took her to the show in Charlotte..

Bruce singing Devils and Dust a few years back on the Grammy's.. I bet the Taylor Swift-types were perplexed by what actual music and actual songwriting sounds like.

acoustic Born to Run - on this stretch of the tour, Bruce would actually play it twice. Once with the full band and then this version during the acoustic set.
It founds its way onto the Human Rights Now EP, as Bruce did a brief tour with a few other artists for an Amnesty International event.

Re: I honestly thought The Boss only had like 12 songs
one of Bruce's many songs about his complicated relationship with his father.. as recently as a month or so ago, he's expressed some regret about how his father has come across in his music. It's funny that no matter how old we get and how many hurdles we've crossed in life, the fundamental relationships are often the ones that haunt us most.

Thunder Road, Promised Land and The River are not rated high enough. Nice nod to Atlantic City at #10. Nebraska as an album is underappreciated.
I am in the same boat. I bought a couple of cds to try after Born in the USA. They only collected dust and I Don't even remember what they were. I am a fan of Mebraska and his best storytelling songs like the River, Thunderroad. That stuff seems to fill out the top 10 but this more recent stuff seems well represented after that.
Don't know if that means it is worth exploring. I am sure there is a lot of crap to wade through

Re: I honestly thought The Boss only had like 12 songs
I rarely listen to any Springsteen records that he released after about '84 or so.. with the exception of Tom Joad. It's not that they aren't good - because they are - it's just that when you have a catalog like he does from Greetings up through Born in the USA, it's a lot of dense music to digest and appreciate.Herbie Green wrote:Floyd Robertson wrote:Somebody had a lot of time on their hands. I was big fan from '78 until "Born in the USA" then I quit.

Re: I honestly thought The Boss only had like 12 songs
Bruce's cover of Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom" seems timely this week.
Starry-eyed an' laughing as I recall when we were caught
Trapped by no track of hours for they hanged suspended
As we listened one last time an' we watched with one last look
Spellbound an' swallowed 'til the tolling ended
Tolling for the aching whose wounds cannot be nursed
For the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones an' worse
An' for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing

Re: I honestly thought The Boss only had like 12 songs
it was a time of tumult in a lot of ways.. the years where Bruce eschewed the E Street Band, did some solo stuff.. dealing with some very private things publicly.. but there were a few good tunes that came out of "Human Touch" and "Lucky Town" records.

Re: I honestly thought The Boss only had like 12 songs
have the Born in the USA record on.
despite the radio play of a few tunes and the epic stardom Bruce subsequently received, just a great, great record. The real shame is that the better tunes on the record are likely the most least known.
Which, ultimately, is okay with me.

I was always curios about the song "Night of the Johnstown Flood" that they were taking turns dancing with Maria to.
So I finally just looked it up andWell it turns out the song didn't even exist at the time

The lyric "When the band played Night of the Johnstown Flood" concerns a flood that engulfed the town of Johnstown, Pennsylvania on the night of May 21, 1889. It was caused by a ferocious storm that broke down the South Fork Dam, 15 miles upstream. 20 million tons of water engulfed the town and 2,000 lives were lost. Over the years several songs have been written about the flood and it is thought that Springsteen is most likely referring to Mack Moody's 1963 version of the traditional folk song "Jonestown Flood."
