Happy Birthday! Will you tell us a story about surviving the Great Depression? Also, these boomers kids are just the worst, right?

Well my younger sister always requests 2 coconut custards - one for the meal and one to steal.
Son #2's S/O has requested a Peach Cobbler, since we're including her birthday in the deal she gets that.
My favorite brother in law is coming and he loves blueberry pie so that's a given.
The other 2 birthdays we're doing are Son #1 and my daughter. Neither of them eats pie - I failed as a parent somehow.
I doubt I'll do more pies than that because I'm thinking about making one of these - saw it on Zimmerns
show on the Travel Channel the other night. I'd never heard of it nor tried it but it looks sinful as hell.
Anyone out there know this dessert??

All of that sounds like a lot of work. Telling those people to fuck off sounds a lot easier.

What's scary is how close that is to some of the older farmer side of the family.....
My beloved grandmother @ age 82 with some of her pies at our family cottage in '77.....the only times she didn't wear an apron like that was
when they left the farm to go visit or go to church.

that's awesome.
I only knew one of my grandparents.. my Mom's mom and she was mean as a striped snake. Didn't have indoor plumbing, you could see daylight between the boards of her house. Poor as sin.
but, man, she could cook.. didn't waste a thing. You never really knew what you were eating and I kinda wanted to keep it that way.

lol, they could all cook anything in that time it seemed. What started my whole "pie thing" was trying to replicate her raisin pie.
They lived in a completely different time, she'd wear an apron, a dress, a corset and whatever underwear she wore year 'round. It could be 102 in July and she'd have that on and Grandpa would be wearing a full union suit, a long sleeved shirt, bib overalls and drinking hot tea while loading hay. My cousins and I would be wearing TeeShirts and shorts wondering how they could stand it....
