Drove another 1/4 mile up Van Dyke and spotted Naruto Sushi.  Knew the place was there but never tried it.  Pulled in and ordered carryout.  Been told the place is usually busy at lunch but today being Monday worked in my favor.  Was out of there in maybe 7-8 minutes.  Spicy Combo lunch special...tuna, salmon, and California rolls.  9 bucks including tax.  Was shocked at the amount of food when I got back to the office.  24 pieces of sushi...enough for both lunch and dinner for me.  Not Kona Grill great but quite tasty.

That's a generous portion for $9.

I thought so. Was expecting 12-15 pieces. Only 2 miles away will definitely order there again.

I've eaten there.

I think I posted about it on one of the early threads. You guys should check out Sapporo at Big Beaver and John R. It is outstanding. I've been there probably 30+ times and it is consistently awesome.

Had no idea there was a sushi place in that complex. How long has it been there?

Your rating compared to Noble Fish, Kona Grill, WOW, Naruto, and Mon Jin Lau?

I honestly like it better than Noble but I've only been there a few times. Menu is much more diverse than Kona and I like the quality and prep better. Wow is no contest but Wow has f'd up my order almost every time I've ordered from there + I don't like how their "krab" in their rolls is krab salad with mayo. Not my cup of tea. Sapporo uses lump which I like better.

Naruto I have not been to.

Mon Jin Lau - I've only eaten in there a handful of times and most were back when we were social (i.e. before kids). I have picked up their stuff from nino's many many times and again, no contest.

I roll with some combo of a rainbow roll, tuna-avocado roll, salmon roll, yellowtail maki roll, and sometimes a special roll. If you eat in for lunch they give you a salad and miso, as well. Sometimes they throw me something extra but probably because at times I'm there a lot. I also have occasionally ordered a tempura app when I eat in, and that's very good, as well.

Looked up Sapporo on the map but didn't see it...google images must be old. What other businesses are next to it?

It's right next to Starbucks or the Salad place....

The sushi menu doesn't seem to be on their website. I know it's on the Restaurant Connection site. https://www.callrc.com/order/restaurant/sapporo-menu/541

When making pies for Sunday I planned to do a couple mixed berry pies because I knew I had various extra amounts of Strawberries, Rhubarb, Raspberries, Blackberries and Blueberries.  After making my Blueberry and Blackberry pies I poured all of the above together and thickened it a bit.  I'd guess the primary ingredient was Strawberries but didn't measure anything.

Normally I don't hear much back through the family grapevine other than what they tell me as we eat.  But today heard from my nephew through my daughter about how great the mixed berry pie was.  This after hearing essentially the same thing yesterday from my sister and Mom.

That of course makes me feel good - the Murphy's Law part?  I don't have a recipe to recreate it.....lol....

Only took pics of the naked pies.

Talk food with my corner beer store owner often.  He's a serious Lent guy.  Gives up meat completely.  Said he's been doing it for 37 years.  Been telling him about the Italian sandwich at Ventimiglia's for a long time.  Printed this picture and gave it to him a few weeks ago just to torment him.

Went into work a few hours today.  Placed an order when I left and picked it up.  He was happier than a pig in shit when I dropped it off.

Got an Italian for myself, of course.  Picked up some of their roasted red peppers, tortellini salad, and seafood salad too.  Can hardly wait to try those later.

I don't know Wags. Nothing offensive in it so I'm sure I would try it but doesn't sound particularly good.

I might make a pizza later, I'll post it up if I do.

So I’m sitting at home and youngest’s boyfriend comes over. Tell him I’m doing beer but chicken. He says I’ll help prep. I tell him I’m gonna try this. We go for it. I did a couple spoonfuls. It was meh. I don’t think I’d do it again. Too much work for not enough wow factor. Wife likes it. I’m thinking a salad goes better. If you like the ingredients try it once. I’m not recommending it.

Roger that.

If you all want to hear a cooking story, I've signed myself up for the mother of them all. I convinced the PTO to let me cook for the end of year picnic at my 2nd grader's school (daughter will be in K there next year). We're figuring 3-400 people. It's on for sure. There is going to be a mac n cheese food truck in addition to my "operation". This will be my first foray into the "commercial" space as we will be charging money, PTO gets to keep all profits. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Pellet smokers are gaining in popularity. Traeger is the most popular brand. They've been around for a while now. I've never had anything cooked on one. I have a guy in my golf league who swears by his. They're not for everyone.

Former co-worker grew up in Texas. Said he cooked with every type of grill and smoker. Settled on Traeger as his favorite. Has two of them, one at his house and one at his cottage. Brought a number of things he made into work for us to try, even homemade sausage. They were all delicious.

Do not, under any circumstances, order a big salad with half iceberg, half spinach because you are worried about the e-coli outbreak.

Got the Wakie pie ready - the last of my mixed fruit concoction.  Strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, & rhubarb.

Pre baking

And cooked...

Had a small top crust issue there but I stitched that puppy back up.

You've obviously got the pies down pat. But, you're kinda pissing me off with lack of pasty experimentation. Pies are fucking everywhere...Traverse City, Achatz...even Nino's aren't bad.

Just a reminder...the LP needs good pasty. You can DO IT!
