South Dakota legislature is hilariously corrupt

The people of South Dakota voted for an independent ethics office to deal with their rampant corruption, so their legislature reacted by declaring a state of emergency to get rid of the referendum entirely.

You can't make this shit up, our "Democracy" is such a fucking joke. I swear politicians are just begging for the public to show up at their homes and offices with pitchforks.

Go back and read about what happened in Montana when the Copper Kings and Anaconda controlled that state's politics.

South Dakota is tracking the same way.

The very first order of business Congressional Republicans tried to get through a couple of weeks ago was to eliminate the independent ethics office. They actually tried to pull that stunt behind closed doors so no one would find out until it was too late. That office was set up because of Congress' inability to properly police itself. There was so much uproar that they've agreed to table the move until August after studying it further. So, you know, corruption out west, corruption in DC. It's a popular thing for elected officials all over the country.

I agree and I think I made a post about the congressional issue when that happened as well.

The fact is that politicians are corrupt from the highest levels all the way to the locally elected officials. There's no oversight, and clearly the electorate can't be trusted to properly police them through voting. Even when the electorate does attempt to address the problem, politicians just find a loophole to get around it.

None of this will get fixed until we tear it all down.
