Re: What are you listening to right now?
it's early still, but I've been up since 5:00, drinking coffee and listening to music. I think all 3 of Isbell's most recent records have already been played in full this morning.
been a while since someone has consistently written as well as he has. I've seen him 7-8 times probably, a handful of times when he was with the Truckers, met him and talked with him some.. and he still blows me away.

Speed Trap Town:
She said, "It's none of my business but it breaks my heart"
Dropped a dozen cheap roses in my shopping cart
Made it out to the truck without breaking down
Everybody knows you in a speed trap town
Well it's a Thursday night but there's a high school game
Sneak a bottle up the bleachers and forget my name
These 5A bastards run a shallow cross
It's a boy's last dream and a man's first loss
And it never did occur to me to leave 'til tonight
And there's no one left to ask if I'm alright
I'll sleep until I'm straight enough to drive, then decide
If there's anything that can't be left behind
Elephant:
She said Andy, you crack me up
Seagram's in a coffee cup
Sharecropper eyes, and her hair almost all gone
When she was drunk, she made cancer jokes
Made up her own doctors' notes
Surrounded by her family, I saw that she was dying alone
Streetlights:
Close your eyes and remember this. It won't be back again, it's almost gone.
Even times that don't seem like much will be your only crutch when you're alone.
Time moves slow when you're seventeen and then it picks up steam at twenty-one.
Pretty soon you'll remember when you could remember when you loved someone
Cover Me Up:
Put your faith to the test when I tore off your dress
In Richmond on high
But I sobered up and I swore off that stuff
Forever this time
And the old lover's sing
“I thought it'd be me who helped him get home”
But home was a dream
One I'd never seen till you came along
Relatively Easy:
I should say I keep your picture with me everyday
The evenings now are relatively easy
Here with you there's always
Something to look forward to
My lonely heart beats relatively easy
Alabama Pines:
If we pass through on a Sunday, better make a stop at Wayne's.
It's the only open liquor store north, and I can't stand the pain
of being by myself without a little help
on a Sunday afternoon.

my wife had the audacity the other evening to say, while discussing his incredible songwriting talent, that "he doesn't have the greatest voice".. our daughter almost came off the couch and went after her.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Co-worker is heavily into the Detroit music scene. Has a recording studio set up at home. He's a decent guitarist and has friends he plays with at random bar gigs. One of his buddies plays with Uncle Kracker occasionally. He was complaining one day about not having a female singer, which he claimed would get them better, higher paying gigs like weddings.
Daughter has spent roughly 24 months on the oceans as a lead singer for Royal Caribbean over the last few years. Her last gig with RC stretched almost 11 months. Roughly a month in Miami for rehearsals then 10 months on the water touring Europe from the Baltic to Mediterranean, then back to Miami (with a stop in Bermuda) to alternate cruises to Mexico and Aruba.
Not certain she's going to sign another RC contract. Put her in touch with my co-worker. Did their first gig at a private party at the Edison Boat Club on the Detroit River last weekend. Daughter can sing pretty much anything...pop, blues, jazz, show tunes. Her first love is country. A Bonnie Raitt tune in this short compilation of clips from the boat club. Was my daughter's idea to throw in the Amy Winehouse.
Not a great video by either screen or audio quality. Still, very proud of her.

Weirdly, I was reading a NYT feature on Ethan Hawke (who I've always appreciated and is getting that midlife resurgence happening thing right now) and this was linked in the story.
So, yeah. This.

I lied. I decided the only song I like on this is Sicko Mode. I bought the rest to mostly support the artist. But I don't like any of them.

great tune by a band out of the Great State of North Carolina.. if this tune doesn't give you the feels, you have some issues that need to be sorted out.
