one was from Green Man - not sure about the others. I just knew he liked IPA's - stood in the beer section and grabbed 6 different ones for him.Da Mayor wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote: that reminds me.. Not that it really matters, but it seems lame that Hopslam came in cans this year. A bottle is cooler.
Cans are far superior to bottles. Less oxidation, no light exposure, lighter and easy to bring anywhere that doesn't allow bottles.

When they started lining cans a few years back, it was a game changer.GirbaudJeans wrote:The Pantry wrote:Hopslam has been in cans the last 2 or 3 years. Not sure why they switched from bottles. Maybe it cuts losses from shipping breakage.

Growing up we'd often get a metallic taste from cans, especially if they weren't very fresh, hence the preference for glass.
Took a little bit to realize, but cans come out ahead in almost every aspect now.

anyway, the upside was I could bring back some illegal moonshine (which I did) and I grabbed a case of Yeungling. Yeah, it's very average beer, but because you can't buy it in Michigan, it was worth the space it took up in the back of the car.
You drove back Yeungling from NC? You know you can buy it in Ohio, right?

The Ohio Turnpike is a great stretch of road. You sure feel the difference once you cross the border into Michigan.

Spoken like someone who's total knowledge of Ohio consists of what they can see while driving on I-75, but hey, that's OK. ,
Though you should consider stopping to see the Rock&Roll HoF once, maybe grab a beer in Cleveland, then head down I-77 for a change of pace.

Doom is pretty good. Lately I've gotten a good taste of bourbon barrel beer. There is no way I'm going to be able to age any of these, but I'm guessing they'd be delicious.

Last time I was at Founders I ordered Doom. Didn't know what it was, but the high ABV drew me in and the server recommended it. It Packs a good punch. Good beer overall

Picked up a 4 pack of Old Nation's Cart Horse from Meijer last night. Really delicious. Like M43 but with even more taste if you can believe that. A little pricy but I'd still buy it again.

I will have to check it out. Where's it from? I love some M-43. Trying to stick to vodka/soda outside of cheat day.

Old Nation. Same brewery that makes M43. Also tried their Boss Tweed a couple weeks ago, which is their Double IPA. That was almost a little too much for me. I like Cart Horse better. But yeah, my beer gut tells me I definitely need to cut back on the craft beers. I just love them so much.

I was thinking we needed a definitive translation - although I guess Dendro could provide that too.

I'm sure you can figure it out Goosey. "Goodbye, pants."
Probably some piss water with fake flavoring and 4.5% ABV. Is it any good, Pantry?

I actually drank a Rolling Rock yesterday.. those are bad even by my standards.
on the actual craft brew topic, heading over to Founders on Sunday - I'm typically a 2-3 Centennial IPA kind of guy but I might mix it up depending on what they have.

I tried it at the Union. It was interesting at first but it got worse as I sipped on it. I didn't finish it. The smell is over powering. There is no additional buzz that I could discern. Would not recommend.

Tapistry Brewing Company in Bridgman, MI. I always try a brewery's IPA to try and judge them. This one is pretty solid. Definitely a step below Two Hearted and Centennial, but enjoyable.
Reactor IPA (named for the Cook Nuclear Plant). 7.5% ABV. 7.5/10

Article says Two-Hearted alone would be the 13th largest microbrewery in the country. Had one on tap at Kona the other day. Was awesome with the sushi.

I am not familiar with 5L kegs. Can you hook them up to CO2? Would last long enough that wayThe Pantry wrote:That's awesome. Any idea how quickly mini kegs go flat after tapping one?pulling69 wrote:

No they are gravity fed kegs, once you tap them it is best to drink them all that day. Maybe good for a second day.
