How do we move forward as fans? Empty How do we move forward as fans?

Post by Travis of the Cosmos 2017-07-09, 05:35

Blind homerism is fine or whatever, but getting excited about going 7-5 and making a bowl game is a lot harder now than it was 10 years ago. How do we deal with the fact that we may very well have seen the most competitive msu will have ever been on the national football stage? (Considering that it's a relatively rigged system tthat we had our chance to spin the wheel on but ended up with rapist assholes.) How do we get excited about the prospects of making the outback bowl again and having to treat it like an accomplishment given what we've done recently? How do we accept that no matter how long we live, no single game is likely to ever end as gloriously as the 2015 um game? Like, I got 60 years ahead of me and I'm willing to accept that the end of that game is as good as it's ever going to get.

Please bump whenever possible to make me look like an asshole. That'd be great.

Groveling in self-pity while linking what a group of 18-24 year old people do in athletic contests or what members of MSU teams do in their off time isn't a start.

If the current state of MSU football is that depressing for you, quit caring so much about it. Unless you work for MSU athletics in some capacity, it doesn't matter.

MSU will never be Ohio State, PSU or umaa in football coverage or recruiting headlines. Mostly because Spartan Stadium seats 75,000. The extra 31,000 seats or more at the 3 other schools generates a lot more revenue for football including recruiting budgets.

As an alum and fan I still would like to see MSU compete and be successful. Barry Alvarez has done it in Madison with a similar size stadium, smaller state population as HC and now AD.

Best thing about college football is every year is a clean slate. No one knows if the 5* RB or QB or DT is worth a shit until they are on the field playing against people as big or strong or fast.

I think MSU is a basketball school, Travis.

Start following it less. Invest in other hobbies you enjoy. Go to 1-2 games a year to enjoy a nice tailgate. Other than that take your Saturdays back and do shit you find fun. Plus fall weather and open Saturdays make for a great time.

Do you think you will be able to get over this? I know how personally embarrassing this must be for you.

The only thing you need to do is lay your ass on the line September 2 at noon.

On a serious note: Jesus tap dancing Christ people. Go watch the game. Cheer when appropriate boo if you must. Enjoy the tailgate and campus. If you really only need to go when they're winning, that's fine, I get it, but you're the ones who have weird issues about sports, think about it.

I think you guys know that I'm not exactly the overly invested type.... it was an interesting conversation I had with a buddy earlier. It mostly revolved around not really giving a shit anymore. I dunno. It's harder to give a shit.

1) It's not that interesting
2) You yelling stuff down to Pylon in your pit is not really a conversation.

Not a big deal for me. I only went to MSU for a semester. I only watch MSU once a year for the Paul Bunyan. I have more important things to do on Saturdays.
