I used to stop and buy The National every day during it's brief, glorious run.

Re: Frank DeFord has died
Seemed like he'd been around forever because for many of us he had. He was at SI for 25+ years, HBO for years and had been on NPR every Friday since 1980 until last year.
Figured something was up when he went cut his NPR Morning Edition commentary from weekly to monthly in 2016. His NPR farewell was May 3.
He was the first SI writer I noticed started following and reading first after my grandmother got me my first SI subscription when I was 11.

Lived in Twickingham Apts fall of 90. Used to walk over to newspaper box. Put in 50 cents and grab 3 copies. Me and my two roomies didn't like to share.
