Tell me about East Indian cuisine...

Post by The Pantry on 2017-06-05, 21:16

Realized over the weekend that I've never been to a restaurant that specializes in it. Think that's because I figured the cuisine was mostly for vegetarians.

Checked menus at local Indian restaurants online. Saw a dish called Lamb Vindaloo. As described, I'm pretty sure I would love it.

Can be spicy. Fish, lamb and lentils.

Make sure you are near a toilet for a couple of hours after eating the food, and I recommend getting the softest toilet paper you can buy.

Need a frame of reference on the heat level. How does it compare to the hottest Thai?

I find most thai places hold back a little bit. If you ask them to make the food spicy they'll do it and it's awesome.

I find that vindaloo is pretty damn hot, but if you ask a thai restaurant to tell the chef to make the dish hot it can get right up there.

Indian is not really a favorite of mine. Only had it a couple of times. But Pantry have you tried that new Indian street food place on Rochester just South of Long Lake? It looks interesting. Old Marinelli's.

Driven by there but the signage makes it look strictly vegetarian.

Interesting. I had not noticed that but I googled and you are correct. What the fuck. How are they doing any business.

Same thing I've thought. Maybe there is enough demand in the Troy melting pot?

Have not been there in years but the only decent vegetarian restaurant I've been to around here is Inn Season in RO. Their V-dishes were outstanding and they'd sometimes have fish specials for us carnivores.

I went there a while back not sure if it is still there, but there was decent Indian food restaurant in Ann Arbor on Main St. If you're curious that's probably your best bet. Maybe check yelp reviews.

The best one I ever went to was in Brighton, England. NYC is loaded with great Indian food restaurants. I used to love the food but it gives me heartburn and violent diarrhea.

The older you get the more you appreciate violent diarrhea.

Yelp sucks. Either good or bad, I consider all of the reviews complete BS.
