CNN Exclusive: US suspects Russian hackers planted fake news behind Qatar crisis

Washington (CNN)US investigators believe Russian hackers breached Qatar's state news agency and planted a fake news report that contributed to a crisis among the US' closest Gulf allies, according to US officials briefed on the investigation.

The FBI recently sent a team of investigators to Doha to help the Qatari government investigate the alleged hacking incident, Qatari and US government officials say.

Intelligence gathered by the US security agencies indicates that Russian hackers were behind the intrusion first reported by the Qatari government two weeks ago, US officials say. Qatar hosts one of the largest US military bases in the region.

This is is getting weird.

The Russians have become skilled at planting false information and we have a President who tweets first and maybe thinks later.

I don't think any of Trump's post WW2 predecessors would have been so anxious to be counted as a friend of Saudi Arabia he starts publicly badmouthing Qatar before securing a replacement base on Saudi soil before going public.

Don't overlook the fact Al Jazeera gets support from Qatar and the news agency has been reporting on things that make a lot of Middle East governments uncomfortable like jailing journalists.

I have read at least 5 stories on this and all I can find is that it was a story about the leader of qatar questioning Trumps future and saying nice things about Iran. I understand that can be a big deal over there, but I want details on how this happened, and what they really think the impact is. Trump seems to think him talking to the Sudis is what made this all come to a head. I haven't seen anything definitive that says he's wrong.

I can't look. It's too embarrassing. It's one of my failings: I can't watch people embarrass themselves. I have to turn off the radio when the president is talking, and then I turn it back on again a few seconds later. Rinse Repeat. Consequently, I try to find transcripts of everything he says because he's so embarrassing.

my wife is like that... it's a good quality to have.. if the person in question deserves our empathy.

however, when it's someone who has such contempt for others, I always enjoy getting a good chuckle out of it.
