Another Michigan State visit for Paris Johnson Jr.
Paris Johnson Jr. is one of the country's fastest-rising 2020 prospects. The 6-foot-7, 260-pound offensive tackle at Cincinnati's St. Xavier High School has added scholarship offers in the last month from Ohio State, Clemson, Pittsburgh, Indiana and Michigan State.

Small tidbit I'd missed....
Early Returns: Key names to know in Michigan State's Top 25 signing class
Early Returns: Key names to know in Michigan State's Top 25 signing class
Xavier Henderson • 4-star • Defensive back • Pickerington (Ohio) Central
Ohio's best defensive back is heading to Michigan State.
That's a sentence that should make any Spartans fan feel good, and Xavier Henderson is a player who has the potential to bring a lot of good news to the Michigan State program over the next four years.
The country's 14th-ranked athlete, Henderson could play cornerback, safety or offense for the Spartans, but he's made his mark at Ohio Division 1 state champion Pickerington Central High School on the defensive side of the ball.
Henderson, 6-feet and 190 pounds, will be a leader on and off the field at Michigan State, much like his cousin Ed Davis was from 2013-16.

Bridges thought on it for a second. The Spartans are 12-1 and ranked in the top 15 nationally in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Their lone loss is to Duke on a neutral floor and their 12 wins have come by an average of 24.7 points. This week, they topped 100 points in back-to-back games for the first time since 2004. Five players are averaging double figures. This isn’t exactly a team with holes.

Michigan State defense: The good, the bad and the ugly
For the Tum haters...
For the Tum haters...
Cassius Winston is one of the best offensive point guards in the country, but his defense lags behind.
According to data from Hoop Lens, Michigan State's defense allows .92 points per possession when Winston is on the floor, but .76 points per possession when he's on the bench.
Winston lags behind Tum Tum Nairn in most of Synergy Sports' defensive statistics from ball-screens to spot-ups,

Kalon Gervin putting in work
Michigan State's lone commitment at the Under Armour All-America Game, Detroit Cass Tech cornerback Kalon Gervin, is putting in work on a big-time Spartans target who's in Orlando with him.
“I've been talking to Tommy Bush a lot,” Gervin told The Athletic when asked how his personal recruiting efforts are going at the game. “He's the only one I'm talking to.”
Bush, from Schertz, Texas, is the country's 37th-ranked wide receiver, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings. He is a major priority for Michigan State. How are the efforts to recruit him coming along for Gervin so far?
“It's going pretty smooth,” Gervin said. “He really likes Michigan State.”

Mandel: Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh shifts from Signing Day centerpiece to afterthought
Signing Day is usually the happiest, most optimistic day of the year in college football. Every class in the country is “great.” Every coach in the country is “thrilled.” Every single kid who signed is a “winner.”
This year, however, it’s easy to identify at least one recruiting loser: Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.
While Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and Alabama’s Nick Saban spent Wednesday adding yet more elite prospects on top of the ones they’d already signed in December, Michigan’s own big personality added … no one particularly noteworthy.
The Wolverines entered the day with just one commit from a national Top 100 prospect on 247Sports’ composite rankings and somehow ended it with zero. Otis Reese, a four-star linebacker from Georgia who initially committed to Michigan in June 2016, signed instead with the home-state Bulldogs.

Opposing coaches break down Bucknell and its chances vs. Michigan State
“Those three guys could play in any league in the country, including the Big Ten,” the Patriot League coach said.
Having Brown, Thomas and Foulland back for 2017-18, Davis built a non-conference schedule made for March. The Bison played at Arkansas, at North Carolina and at Maryland. One non-conference head coach who beat Bucknell told The Athletic: “Here’s the thing, they scheduled this year for this time — to prepare for the NCAA Tournament. No disrespect to their league, but they modeled this season kind of like Gonzaga, to play teams of a certain caliber. Because of that scheduling, they’re not going to tip-toe into this.”

He don’t have a car. You don’t see any jewelry with him. He should be the poster child for the NCAA. And the sad news is, I feel bad for him. He didn’t come back to deserve this.”

“We've looked at Nick, but he’s not — other than Zach Randolph, there’s just really no one like him,” one NBA front-office representative said. “His weight fluctuates. He’s not in great shape. He can’t shoot. There are less and less back-to-the-basket guys in the league and, for him, at 6-8, I would assume he will go undrafted.”
An Eastern Conference scout went further:
“Best-case (scenario) for him is late second round. He just doesn’t have that profile as a five in the league. Nick is a hard guy to peg. Don’t get me wrong, at some point in his career, maybe he makes a roster, maybe he plays in the NBA. But right now, I don’t think he’s draftable. The draft is all based on upside and guys having skills that you can develop.
Jeff Ward, a former professional player with roughly a decade spent overseas, said his son will return to school if he doesn’t receive positive feedback from workouts. He called it “a win-win situation.”
Jeff Ward added that if his son does return to college, it will “absolutely, 100 percent” be at Michigan State, dispelling any potential transfer rumors.

Re: The Athletic website
An Eastern Conference scout who watched Jackson in person multiple times this season said he’s the clear No. 3 prospect on the board. The only reason Jackson could fall lower, he said, is if the team selecting has an unavoidable need at a different position.
“Defensively, he’s already at an elite level,” the scout said. “That’s pretty clear — the way he can protect the rim, and how he can sit down in a stance, move his feet on the perimeter and takes up so much space. You’re drafting him for defense, and then anything offensively he brings will be a bonus that continues to evolve.”
