Sprinkler Repairman ?

Post by GirbaudJeans on 2017-07-29, 11:32

There must be a few here right ?

So I have noticed my lawn is turning brown and just assumed it was this Texas heat but decided to run my sprinklers to see if there were any issues. I start it at 4am so I never see if it is running or not because I roll out of bed around 10. I have 12 zones on a program. The zone starts, sprays water and then shuts down in 10 to 20 seconds. The control box still says the zone is running and shows the timer. Anyone have any idea WTF could be going on ? Google didn't help at all. If you supply the information that fixes my issue I will send one of the following. Franklins BBQ, local beer or a local Bourbon.

Go....

The first zone starts and shuts down in 20 seconds but the box says it's still running. What happens after that? Do any of the other zones turn on?

Goes onto the next zone and the same thing happens. Although I am not sure I saw the next zone pop up and spray but I am testing now. It's possible only the first actually sprays.

House is 2 years old. I don't know how often those fail but no idea how to test those either.

Have you lifted the cover(s) off the valve box(es) to check for leaks?

There are a bunch of YouTube videos on checking solenoids.

I say just pave the yard and be done with it.

98% sure. Weird that the house is only two years old though.

A leak in the valve box can short out a solenoid. My best guess from the info given.

Grass is supposed to turn brown in the summer, it goes dormant.
That's 2 problems solved.

Sounds like the bypass line. Get some pliers and 30 weight ball bearings.

Ahhh come on tGreenway. It's simple, maybe you need a refresher course... it's all ball bearings these days.

Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.
