Future Spartans Impress in California

Phoenix Pinnacle QB Brian Lewerke

- Rivals.com voted Lewerke the "most accurate" of the six quarterbacks who participated.

Hubbard (Ohio) running back Larry Scott

- Many have compared Scott to NFL standout LeVeon Bell and that is appropriate.

Detroit King LB Tyriq Thompson

- All Thompson did on Sunday night was quietly lead the East defense in tackles as they shut down the West offense in a 24-3 victory.

Does Dantonio recruiting a coaching replacement count?

Adam Rittenberg ‏@ESPNRittenberg 14m14 minutes ago
Worked with Dantonio at Ohio State RT @ThayerEvansSI: Former Texas A&M DC Mark Snyder is joining Michigan State's staff per source.

Adam Rittenberg ‏@ESPNRittenberg 6m6 minutes ago
Snyder coached LBs at Ohio State, South Florida and Youngstown State. Expect him to work there as Mike Tressel enters co-coordinator role.

This is good new, right? I mean, its no Jim Tressel, but it almost sounds as if Dantonio is reassembling the coaching staff that was at O$U. I still think that Dantonio and staff are going to be able to recruit well in Ohio.

Do we still have that recruiting coordinator on our staff? Forget his name.

Looks like we are drawing in the same type of talent we've always drawn in and the dumb recruiting sites are taking notice of Coach D's ability to find great talent.

Curtis Blackwell. He is still part of the staff (last time I looked).

When you say replacement do mean a replacement for Dantonio down the road?

No, I was simply referring to a replacement for Narduzzi on the defensive staff. They needed to hire 1 coach and this is the guy. Getting a former SEC defensive coordinator as your LB coach seems like a pretty good addition.

Agreed. I was just curious because Snyder was once the head coach at Marshall (for 4-5 seasons). He did not have much success.

More on Snyder:

Prior to joining Sumlin in 2012, he was South Florida's defensive coordinator (2010-11) and Marshall's head coach (2005-09).

He coached linebackers at Ohio State in 2001-03, when Dantonio was defensive coordinator under Jim Tressel. Snyder was defensive coordinator in 2004, the first season of Dantonio's tenure as head coach at Cincinnati. Snyder and Dantonio also worked together on Tressel's defensive staff at Youngstown State in the 1990s.

Det News: Willis, Thompson look forward to MSU football

Jackson — While Khari Willis was busy leading Jackson Lumen Christi to a basketball victory over rival Jackson on Tuesday night, Tyriq Thompson was making plans to move to East Lansing.

Both players are headed to Michigan State, but Thompson, a linebacker from Detroit King, has decided to enroll early.

But leaving early wasn't something Willis had in mind. Not with a stellar basketball career to close.

An article from the Freep about a couple of players that plan to visit MSU in the near future. Ohio LB Anthony McKee and Oak Park ATH John Kelly. Both are class of 2015. However, the end of the article talks about Snyder's recruiting duties.

Snyder likely to recruit Ohio

With news that MSU will likely hire Mark Snyder to his staff, the Spartans will be adding someone very familiar to Big Ten recruiting. Snyder worked at both Ohio State and Minnesota. At both spots he was effective at recruiting players from Ohio.

With the departure of Pat Narduzzi, the Spartans will need someone to assume the recruiting duties of northeastern Ohio, which includes areas like Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown. It is also possible that Snyder could take over recruiting New Jersey, another area Narduzzi served as MSU's primary contact.

Minnesota was known for being very active recruiting Ohio when Snyder was on staff with Glen Mason. Mark Dantonio and Snyder often recruited defensive players together while at Ohio State from 2001 to 2003.

Washington DC RB and 2016 MSU offer Abdul Adams getting lots of attention.

Adams announced via Twitter back on Nov. 30 that he was no longer orally committed to East Carolina, the first school to offer him a scholarship.

“Me and my family, we just thought that was best,” Adams said Thursday. “It gave us the opportunity to go through the whole recruiting process.”

Adams offered no timetable on a new decision, and it’s partly because he’s waiting to see just how many scholarship offers he can stockpile. He’s now up to 13 after West Virginia, Hawaii and Connecticut joined the fray this past weekend. Michigan State, Pittsburgh Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Marshall and East Carolina

MSU has 15 recruit commits, looking to take 2 to 3 more unless someone transfers. National signing day is Feb. 4th.

More than you ever wanted to know about our newest FB Coach:

"I think on every staff, there needs to be check and balances," said Dantonio. "Mark Snyder has done it all in his career: he's been a linebackers coach, a front-seven coach, a defensive line coach in the Big Ten, a head coach, and a coordinator. So he's a big picture guy, and also understands the value of special teams. I expect him to be that checks and balances part of our front seven.

"When we first had this opening, I made a short list of the coaches that I've worked with in the past that fit this position, and there were very few. He did a tremendous job at linebackers coach at Ohio State and also with special teams. We were together for three years in the staff room and on the practice fields. There's a lot of vocabulary and terminology that are similar in our defense.

"Mark is extremely loyal and develops outstanding player relationships. He also has a fiery personality, which we lost with Pat Narduzzi a little bit, but I think that his personality is a plus - he brings energy to the field every day, which is good. He's a great recruiter and has recruited the areas that we lost with Narduzzi, in New Jersey and Florida, and he's been strong in Ohio, Texas and Louisiana, so I think that benefits us as well.

"Working with our staff is another common denominator; Mark has relationships with five members of our staff. He has a great family and many of our coaches' families know them as well. I just think it will be a great fit.

Weekend Visitors

Courtesy Mr Dorsey of Rivals.

This coming weekend Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio and his staff will host numerous recruits on official visits. Many of the recruits who will be on campus have already committed to the Spartans and this will be their opportunity to bond with their future teammates and build additional rapport with the coaching staff. Below is a list of the players who will be in East Lansing.

A little more on Larry Scott making a visit to campus.

Scott, a 6-foot-2, 228-pound tailback, made a verbal commitment to sign with the Spartans on July 10.

The highest-ranked MSU commit at No. 94 in the nation according to 247Sports.com, Scott has stayed firm on his pledge even as Ohio State has continued to recruit him.

Outgoing Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year Kurtis Drummond attended Hubbard High School like Scott, and Scott has often been compared to former Big Ten rushing champ and Michigan State star Le'Veon Bell.

Update on early enrollee Tyriq Thompson.

"This is a big opportunity for me, so I wanted to get on campus early,'' said Thompson, who finished his Detroit Martin Luther King High School classes with a 4.3 grade point average. "I moved in on Sunday, and we'll start workouts early (Thursday).''

Michigan State announced it will will begin spring practices March 24 and conclude its 15-practice schedule with the Green and White Game on April 25.

2015 MSU offer D'Amontae Jackson visits Iowa State.

The 6-foot, 270-pound tackle has also received offers from Auburn, Miami (FL), Michigan State, South Florida, and Utah. Jackson received his offer from the Cyclones back on May 19th last year. There hasn’t been an official offer from the Seminoles that’s been reported.

Jackson was planning to visit Ames sometimes this year and decided on short notice to make the trip this weekend. One of the more attractive reasons is because College GameDay will be coming to Iowa State basketball’s game against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday night.

Update on 2015 MSU offer John Kelly.

Oak Park senior football player John Kelly has narrowed his choices for future schools down to four and both Michigan State and Michigan are in the mix.

Kelly, an athlete who is being recruited as a running back and defensive back, is also considering offers from Tennessee and Minnesota. All everyone is waiting for is to see which school Kelly picks. According to Kelly, we'll have to wait until Feb. 4, better known as National Signing Day.

"I'm definitely going to wait until signing day," Kelly said.

Michigan State was one of the first schools to offer Kelly while Michigan was the first BCS to get in contact with Kelly but did not offer until October. Kelly plans to official visit Tennessee on Jan. 16, Minnesota on Jan. 23 and Michigan on Jan. 30. He has taken three unofficial visits to Michigan State since the start of August.

2016 MSU offer Josh Imatorbhebhe talks about who leads for his QB services.

"I have a pretty good idea of what I like out of the schools that I have offers from," Imatorbhebhe said. "If I had to say, I would probably say Ohio State is the team to beat and then in no order after that, Florida, South Carolina, Michigan and Michigan State now. Those are probably right now the top five that are heavily considered, but everything is subject to change, because I do have a long time to pick where I'm going to go, so I'm going to take everything with a grain of salt and look at every option that I have very closely and make sure that every place gets looked at."

MSU adds a new offer for 2015.

On Wednesday, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio extended a scholarship offer to 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end Khalid Kareem of Farmington Hills Harrison High. The offer from Michigan State was his 19th, and he received his 20th when Michigan offered Thursday. Rivals.com ranks Kareem a four-star recruit and one of the top-250 prospects in the nation for the class of 2015.

Do we need to issue some official Swill press credentials? If Hondo can do it...tOfficial MSU Football Recruiting Thread: Class of 2015 2599972566

Day 21 of the Hardon reign at scUM and no new commits for them, I've been having fun reminding their fanboys of the predictions of 5*'s beating the doors down to commit to Jesus.

Meanwhile the slappies over at MGoBlow are wetting themselves over JesusHardon stealing some State commits. Seems a bit strange in light of the fact that usually they scoff that our commits couldn't make it there.....

When it became obvious that Harbaugh was going to be coming to Michigan, one of the things I was hoping for was puttling Sparty in their place soon. Flipping a couple of their "commits" would be a great way to do this.

Sparty already hates Michigan to a degree that is already infinite and irrational. They might as well have a few better reasons, like losing a few "commits" to Michigan and losing big to Michigan on October 17.

2015 MSU offer Cassius Peat wants to visit MSU one more time.

While Tempe Corona del Sol senior Cassius Peat works hard to try to help his Aztecs teammates win a fourth boys basketball state championship ring, his home has been open for football coaches from UCLA, Michigan State and Arizona State.
