What has Trump accomplished so far?
1. Getting Neil M. Gorsuch confirmed to the Supreme Court;
2. The significant drop-off in illegal immigration crossings (from an already low level);
3. Neither the world nor the Constitution has been destroyed yet;
4. Progress in the Middle East campaign against the Islamic State;
5. A solidly growing economy.
And here we arrive at the biggest dog not to bark in the Trump era. It’s not that economic progress has accelerated — it hasn’t. But there hasn’t been a slowdown either, globally or in the United States. The global economy has not imploded with Trump sitting in the Oval Office. That is a pleasant surprise.

Let's not forget the dropoff at the southern border occurred without constructing a wall.

he has finally shone a light on the glaring hypocrisy of the immoral religious right that we've always known them to be - we just now have daily reminders.
so that's a positive thing.
so that's a positive thing.

I think he's done a lot for the American diet and nutrition..

I don't know that you're so right about that. I mean, it gets said a lot, but let's break that down.
He probably would have won Michigan and Wisconsin (let's just say he would have, I'll give you that.) but that wouldn't have been enough, he'd still lose. So he'd need one of Florida, Ohio or Pennsylvania. The only one of the three that is even reasonable to think it would have made a difference is Pennsylvania, which trump won by about 80,000 votes. (Florida was like 140k and Ohio was 400k. Ohio is certainly out, Florida- probably. Penn is your best shot.)
So when you say that, what you're telling me is that you think that sanders would have switched 80,000 votes in Pennsylvania (plus the handful in Wisconsin and Michigan that are totally reasonable and already conceded.) now, I don't know a ton about Pennsylvania politics, just bits and pieces, but I'm pretty sure you're hanging your hat exclusively on winning those votes in Philadelphia. Would that have happened? I don't know, but I guess I'm just going into more detail on what you're saying.
Or if sanders had won the nomination a violent species of aliens would have attacked us. Butterfly effect and all that, who the hell knows. I'm just basing the above off of what actually happened and what would need to change.

All good points but there were a number of old democrats like me who I'm very suspicious about not voting. To many of them it was "fuck the clintons". I've not really broken it down. Im just speculating

Yeah I mean that's where you get into the butterfly effect part of it. Seems to make sense that sanders would have attracted more votes than Clinton would off the cuff, but what's unknowable is how the whole fake news/Russia thing may have played out with sanders as a nominee. Or trump screaming "he's a socialist" into a microphone every chance he got. I doubt there's many that voted for trump that would have been swayed, so we're relying on non voters to come out for him. But there's so many variables that there's no way to really know what would have happened.
I think it's an interesting question though. Obvi.

It wouldn't have been a "revolution" - that's how you rally votes. Look at Trumps white taking back America thing. Obamas change/hope message. In the end, shit is pretty much going to be the same but quite worse with someone like trump in there, obviously. With that said - Like trav mentioned he still really doesn't do much and says a lot. Seems like the norm of politics to me.

Do you have any specifics on what Sanders would have done better? Like Trump he would have been dealing with a hostile Congress only more so. The only big difference I can see is the Supreme Court nominee - who still might not be approved. Anything to do with the "travel ban" is fluff since that hasn't really affected most lives in America....
I'm sincerely curious on what you think Sanders would have accomplished in 6 months that would have made any kind of a real difference?

Could you guys imagine the hellfire that would rain from the skies if I referred to abortion as fluff since it doesn't really effect goose's life?
Just messin with you bud. Sanders, just like Clinton, wouldn't have been able to have accomplished much to this point. But we wouldn't have to wonder everyday what either of them might do any given day, knowning that nothing would really change. We don't know that now.
Also Paris. I know, you think that it's a bunch of a fooey, and whatever, this isn't the thread for that. The rest of us (I think I can speak for basically the rest of the board) think it's a really bad thing that we aren't a world leader on fighting climate change.

"fighting climate change" C'mon man...the climate will always be changing and your "fight" won't change that. And do it in another thread if you want but tell me again the effect of the Paris Treaty on the climate? You know, how much are they projecting that temps will come down?
BTW - have you been watching the news from Australia on temps?

Goose I know somehow the asshole/know nothing/blow hard has won you over but I said "shit is pretty much going to be the same". Maybe we don't look like such assholes on the international stage. I guarantee race relations wouldn't seem so unstable (even if they are really not). We wouldn't have a president tweeting out his feelings like a high schooler. He would be trying to get progressive policies in place with education, efficienct energy, etc - meanwhile we are yelling about North Korea, a wall to keep out the lazy Mexicans, trying to keep out certain members of society from serving the country. But - it pleases the morans.
Again - not much would be different policy wise but the landscape and future would look different. Trump is going backwards to please the idiots. Yes I think they are idiots and this is what got him elected because I think the people that voted for him are idiots.
