I pay high taxes, and I can confirm we have nice things in my town. It's amazing how that works.

isn't it, though?

You want nice services, schools, police, fire, etc. you have to pay for them.

Or you can choose to live somewhere else. That's what's nice about local government.

Looks good for Democrats on the east coast.

If true, it's gonna be fun watching republicans and the mainstream media minimize it and/or tell us how it has nothing to do with the racist, bigoted sexual predator.

She beat a candidate who referred to himself as the "chief homophobe" and introduced a bathroom bill that died in state house committee.

The race focused on traffic and other local issues in suburban Prince William County but also exposed the nation’s fault lines over gender identity. It pitted a 33-year-old former journalist who began her physical gender transition four years ago against a 13-term incumbent who called himself Virginia’s “chief homophobe” and earlier this year introduced a “bathroom bill” that died in committee.

last night was a solid indicator.. 2018 will be the next one.

so, we shall see. There seems to be a reason for cautious optimism.. but you (not "you" specifically but people in general) underestimate the stupidity of the American people at your own peril.

Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for. Don’t forget, Republicans won 4 out of 4 House seats, and with the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!

it was a good night for Democrats and they deserve to celebrate and feel empowered. However, it's back to work today.. the events of last night should provide them with some energy and if they can harness it and keep the momentum going forward, Election Day 2018 could prove to be a good night, too.

Rural white voters didn’t show up for Virginia’s election

Post by Turtleneck on 2017-11-08, 19:36

In full disclosure, I should note that these Virginia results are still preliminary, that they don’t necessarily reflect every election that occurred this week, and that we don’t necessarily need all that much explanation for what happened. The party of an unpopular president is generally going to fare poorly in off-year elections. Nonetheless, it’s worth thinking about just which groups of voters were most mobilized in the most recent presidential election and which failed to show up the next year. The analysis above suggests that Democrats did well because white, conservative, rural Republicans, — those who gave Trump his victory last year — simply didn’t show up this time.

Another surprising outcome was Nassau County NY that elected its 3rd Democrat to be County Executive since 1930. Former NY Daily News reporter and school board member defeated a former state senator.

Trump without Trump is like a warm bucket of spit.
