the thumb: what am I am missing?
I honestly have no idea if I've ever been there, and its all of 30 mins from my hometown. Whats going on there? What's the deal? How's the beaches? A potential investment opportunity?

When thinking of the thumb, think "Deliverance"... I've known seemingly regular people get pulled into stuff in the thumb and never making it out normal.
The locals are fucking looney.
(ie OKC bombers and shit.)

Jim Nichols is a nice guy, I used to buy straw from him. I happened to be driving by there the day of the raid, I thought the blue helmets were taking over based on how many helicopters were flying in the area.

Economy is booming there. It's like North Dakota. You should invest.

I grew up in the thumb. I would agree with everything said in ITT thus far.

It's weird I was there for work once for about two months. As I was coming in I looked around and thought "why don't more people come here? This is nice". By the time I left, I knew.

Lots of good hard working people and lots of fucked up ass backwards rednecks. Port Austin/Caseville has great beaches and great value for being on the water. Between the two state parks is some very nice coastline. Or Sand Point if you have major bank.

We have a place outside of Pt. Austin and if you fish for walleye, it's great. If you don't, well....

So we weren't quite neighbors. I grew up in the middle of the Thumb but spent lots of time at the beach in your area, my Uncle had a cottage in the park at Forester.

I worked at the little store in the Forester park for a summer serving Ice Cream. That job sucked ass.

Not a good place to rob someone in their home.

Homeowner shoots, kills two home invasion suspects
SANILAC COUNTY, MI - A pair of men were shot to death early Sunday morning by a homeowner after they allegedly broke into a Greenleaf Township residence, police said.
Deputies with the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office responded around 5 a.m. Nov. 10 to the 4300 block of Holbrook Road for a 911 call received by Sanilac Central Dispatch advising police three male subjects had broken into a home and shot the homeowner in the leg.
Gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and the homeowner. One of the suspects was pronounced dead at the home with a gunshot wound, while another suspect fled on foot.
