Large chunk of icy snow slid off the front roof of my SUV and over the windshield on the way home this afternoon. Fortunately, it was mostly on the passenger side. No point to turning on the wipers...could have burned out the wiper motor. Did a few hard left turns in attempt to pitch the chunk off but it got stuck on the antenna. Took it really easy on right turns to avoid the mass sliding to the left and possibly obscuring my view. Didn't clear it until back in my driveway.

Out of your mind on many levels IMO. Start with a month or two in San Diego to help clear your weather head.

You should have sent the chunk of ice a text to free your windshield.

What about the winter sun after a snowstorm? That's usually when it's coldest. Of course then you have to wear shades or go snowblind.

not a fan of the sun in general.

I think it was Sunday (maybe) that the sun popped out and I had to throw on shades for the purpose of protecting my eyes from the rays. I almost always wear some sort of glasses when outside, as it protects my eyes from wind, etc. The lens is what is important.

for instance, I was out Sunday morning wearing a lens designed to not only eliminate glare but to also enhance visual acuity. In the snow/ice, depth perception can be virtually impossible, especially when running. The way the snow/ice/slush combination from Saturday evolved, lots of chunky ice was on the trails Sunday morning... pretty much a broken ankle waiting to happen if you can't differentiate between a spot of packed down snow and jagged ice.

so, yes - eyewear is crucial.

To throw it, where?

With your love of snow and cold, you should move to the UP (tOfficial Up North).  The Keweenaw, to be specific.  You could shovel snow pretty much every day from November to April.

Bob, what about this scenario...it's a nice Saturday afternoon, you're out running in the woods, it's about 23deg with a fresh blanket of snow and the sky is blue and the sun is shining?

I'm not a fan of the sun when it's hot, but on a nice crisp winter afternoon I love it.

Unfortunately, we would need a few days of this to kill significant numbers, as opposed to just putting them in this hibernation-like state for a day or sun until they warm up and start moving again. I think it's been about 10 years since we've had a cold snap like that to cull the iguana population, so the invasive fuckers have gotten to be a pretty big nuisance.

But there's one bit of unpleasantness to deal with before you can get started.
