Should I go to a Dead & Company show this weekend?

Post by Other Teams Pursuing That on 2018-07-12, 23:48

Have I already asked this? Why the fuck not, right? Haven’t listened to much of their music.

Maybe this should go in the jam band thread?

Yes you should otpt.

I went to see dirty heads a couple of weeks ago and I was like “I know one of their songs, I guess it’s fine” beforehand but once I left I was all like “wait they have all sorts of other shit. Neat. I like em.”

Anyway just go. Fuck you.

Fuck yes.

They are the real deal. Tonite and Saturday are the last two stops on the summer tour (they are playing Lockn next month).

John Mayer is amazing and Jeff Chimanti on keys is the real deal. The other guys aren't bad either.

Seen this band 4 times and I saw the real Grateful Dead, Furthur and The Dead. This is their best band since Jerry died.

At worst you'll get really high and have a good time.

Id go both nights but if you can only go one night go Saturday. This band has been much better on the second nights of back to backs.

Say hi to Walton for me

Yeah us old folk are there but I'd say it's about half over 40 and half under. They ain't playing back to back stadium dates on just old folks.

Be interested in what you thought otpt.

You got a good show. Big crowd. I watched every show on the tour - you got a top ten performance.

FTR best shows on this tour were:
1. Autzen stadium
2. Dodger stadium
3. Citi field night 2

Glad to hear i got a good performance Strangelove, I loved it. Great crowd as you mentioned, haven’t been in a scene in a stadium like that since U2 I think. Good vibes everywhere. CU’s stadium is pretty neat.

Haven’t been to a ton of concerts like that lately with my electronic shit taking up a lot of my time so it was a nice way to switch it up. I have a new found liking for John Mayer and the dead.

Had no idea this night wrapped up their summer tour. Just wish i knew more of their songs. What’s the best way to listen to them? Is most of their shit just remakes or do they have original shit too? I see Grateful Dead on Spotify.

Definitely will not be my last dead show - if they are going to continue to tour? Should probably grab bill Walton’s book.

Last things first: Walton's book is good. It's a quick read.

You caught the tour ender but they have 2 more shows this year at Lock'n. There will be 3 shows in Cancun in Feb 19 and a tour next summer.

You're getting on the bus at a good time. D&C are the best post Jerry band with any original Dead members and that's thanks to Mayer and Jeff Chimenti (keys).

The good thing is all their music is on the web die free. My point of entry was an official release called "Reckoning" - which is a collection from the Dead's Radio City Music Hall 1980 run. Also Dead Set covers those shows and also Wiltern shows from same tour.

That's a good place to start and I would also hunt down this tours Autzen, Dodger and Citi 2 shows which are on YouTube.

D&C have not released any new material yet. They are ploughing throw the Grateful Dead songbook.

Here's a link to every set they've played since they started in October 15.

Welcome aboard.
