Yeah, this is a win as it sits now, and Trump can even claim it as a win (though too much crowing about it might be counter-productive).  Sure, there will probably be more terrorist/proxy attacks, but those were stepped up a lot in the last 6 months anyway.  The last few days were hardly the first shots of this conflict.

This. Most have been to focused on what Trump ate for breakfast everyday, but this has been brewing for a while. Before the strike Iranians were protesting against their government and Iraqis were protesting about increased Iranian influence in their country/government. Iran has been poking the bear for a while trying to get us to react... and it worked. Now both Iraqis and Iranians hate us again, instead of their own governments. At least for now. Till they realize they still have no economy and basic needs.

Just GTFO and let them sort it out.

It's amazing how many people feel that way. Was talking to a friend about all this and he was just commenting how after 17+ years of this stuff everyone has fatigue from these endless and costly wars. Unfortunately I don't think we will leave, can't see us wanting to give up those bases in Iraq anytime soon.

Iran has concluded its attack.. does not see escalation (per mainstream media).

of course, the racist, bigoted christian sexual predator and his accomplices in the mainstream media will celebrate attacks on US troops as a "win"... and continue to normalize his behaviors, thereby desensitizing the American public to missile attacks on our service members.

Lend-lease was approved by Congress, but there was a lot more than that, such as escorting the ships through the dangerous North Atlantic, planes helping to spot U-boats for British warships, and then ultimately the order in the fall for US ships themsleves to shoot on sight any German ships/subs. Honestly, though, you could go back to before the Civil War and find cases of Presidents ordering acts of war without a Congressional declaration of War.

I heard mention that we (may have) had the technology to see the missiles being loaded (or at least heard chatter they were launching/advance warning), we have the technology to detect launch, and the ability to track them

Do we not have the technology to shoot them down?  Or we just didn't have it on that base?  Or anywhere close enough?

this is how big of a coward the racist, bigoted christian sexual predator is:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

The United States just spent Two Trillion Dollars on Military Equipment. We are the biggest and by far the BEST in the World! If Iran attacks an American Base, or any American, we will be sending some of that brand new beautiful equipment their way...and without hesitation!

last night, as Iran attacked US military bases:

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
·
16h
All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.

I'm mocking his tough talk, his setting of this line in the sand not to cross.. his threats of putting other people's children at risk in order to distract stupid Americans from his crime and corruption...

then running away like the coward he is when Iran calls his bluff.

I just get this feeling that he is becoming more and more unstable. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this happened and built up during the congressional break. Like he was utterly bored. Like he demanded someone give him some actionable intelligence. Like he just wanted to pull a trigger. His foreign policy is scatter brained at best. Get out of endless wars. Now get into one. Get out of Syria send troops home and abandoned the Kurds. Then build up in SA and the Middle East. Mind boggling. Just recently announced a strategy of getting out of these types of situations then flat out creates one and as we speak, building and increasing troop deployments.

Talking tough is part of international politics. Every president, and most leaders of major countries, have talked tougher than they were willing to act for the last hundred years, probably longer. That damn JFK talked so tough to the USSR, but he was too much of a coward to launch the nukes like he threatened!

I apologize for any wild speculation on my part. I should have referred to the clearly defined strategy in place. We should use the complete denuclearization of North Korea as our guiding light when doubting Mr Trump.

I think the whole situation could have been handled much better, but if it doesn't go any further than this, it seems like a win to me. Soleimani and the Hezbollah guy dead, and no US casualties? Works for me.

To be clear, I think it is very reasonable to be skeptical about the timing and motives here, but sometimes something done for the wrong reason can still be a net positive.

Of course, there is still time for this to get fucked up, but I'm cautiously optimistic here.

I agree there’s the potential. I’m wondering though. If I’m correct there’s literally nothing in place to stop them from developing their program now? Like at least before he withdrew from the icky Obama deal there was something in place. He keeps bouncing back and forth between Iranian influence in Iraq and the Iranian nuke program. I know focus isn’t his strong suit. It’s kinda like the Ukraine thing. He just wants an announcement of investigations. Couldn’t care less if there actually are any. Now he just wants an announcement of a deal with his name on it to claim victory. Exactly the same tactic with NK. Just some meaningless made for tv glory show for himself.

To be clear, I think it is very reasonable to be skeptical about the timing and motives here, but sometimes something done for the wrong reason can still be a net positive.

Of course, there is still time for this to get fucked up, but I'm cautiously optimistic here.

This. I think it is also reasonable that there were threats.

I'm not an expert, but there was nothing in place before the air strike except sanctions. I don't think anything has changed there.

Correctamundo.

I'm always more than happy to explain things to Miami at whatever level of comprehension he needs.
You really aren't happy to. When I try to engage you in rational discussion, you don't want to. In fact you've flat out said that you don't like getting into discussions on the internet. And that's totally fine, dude, but don't then say you're happy to explain things to me.

Nice to see your fearless, nauseatingly repetitive, leader Bob becoming unglued again with this newest perceived opportunity to attack. Always mad as a hornet. tOfficial USA/Iranian war thread - Page 2 502811600

What he meant to say is that he's extremely comfortable condescending to you without saying anything of real substance.
