Having just seen the picture, yeah, something is off with it. Everyone in the picture has their arm around the guy next to him, except Dantonio and Blackwell. Dantonio's outside hand is in his pocket.

Photoshopped? Maybe. Some have said Blackwell isn't that much taller than the rest.

Or maybe tension between MD and Blackwell? The kind of tension that might be caused if someone who is not supposed to be there showed up anyway (in violation of the rules).

I don't know. Yeah I'm speculating. But if it isn't photoshopped, then the body language between the two seems odd.

What's the harm in letting a friend who has always coached at your camps, continue coaching at the camps, just because he is close to a kid that might at some point be recruited? This is the NCAA we are talking about.

(b) Allegations in a case in which information is developed to indicate a pattern of willful violations on the part of the institution or individual involved, which began before but continued into the four-year period; and
(c) Allegations that indicate a blatant disregard for the Association’s fundamental recruiting, extra benefit, academic or ethical-conduct bylaws or that involve an effort to conceal the occurrence of the violation. In such cases, the enforcement staff shall have a one-year period after the date information concerning the matter becomes available to the NCAA to investigate and submit to the institution a notice of allegations concerning the matter.

Michigan football, basketball each self-report one NCAA violation

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, director of recruiting Matt Dudek, defensive coordinator Don Brown, cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich, offensive line coach Ed Warinner, wide receivers coach Ben McDaniels and tight ends coach Sherrone Moore violated the NCAA dead period in January. McDaniels was an analyst when the violation occurred.

Because of a scheduling error by Dudek, the coaches made visits to high schools during the dead period, during which schools are not allowed to have contact with athletes or their parents, watch them compete or visit their schools. One prospect, unnamed in the report, took an unofficial visit during the period as well.

Though Dudek was off by just one day — thinking contact was allowed on Jan. 10 when the period lasted until Jan. 11 — eight Michigan coaches visited 25 high schools illegally. According to the report filed by the University, all of the trips were to evaluate recruits, as none were of a contactable age.

Michigan avoided serious punishment, as the violation was not intentional and classified as a Level III violation. As a self-imposed penalty, coaches were not allowed to recruit off-campus on Jan. 19, 20, 26 and 27, as well as Feb. 2. They were also prohibited from contacting the prospect who unofficially visited for two weeks, and had a reduction of 14 recruiting person days between the spring and fall evaluation, per the report. Dudek was issued a letter of admonishment. The NCAA did not impose an additional penalty on the program.

Kind of weird how neither Detroit paper covered it.

Dantonio, falsely accused of recruiting violations, MSU's attorney's want Blackwell's sanctioned and removed.

An ex-Michigan State football staffer falsely accused retired coach Mark Dantonio of perjury and NCAA recruiting violations, university attorneys say.

Lawyers for Dantonio and MSU asked that attorneys Thomas Warnicke and Andrew Paterson Jr. to be removed from the case – and that client Curtis Blackwell’s case be dismissed.

They also sought to have Paterson be sanctioned after he filed an affidavit on behalf of a witness whose statements were contradicted by his own client’s deposition.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Sally Berens on Thursday, March 5, gave Paterson until Monday to show cause why he should not be sanctioned. He was earlier sanctioned $10,000.

The judge listened to attorneys argue for nearly three hours on a series of motions. She will issue a written opinion.

She suggested that Blackwell’s attorneys filed “salacious and misleading” information that was unrelated to claims that his constitutional rights were violated.

Magistrate recommends tossing this case out of court

In her recommendation filed in federal court Friday night, U.S. magistrate judge Sally J. Berens said Blackwell's lawyers "repeatedly misused court process" for the purpose of harassing the defendants, including Dantonio, former MSU president Lou Anna K. Simon and former athletic director Mark Hollis.

Blackwell's lawyers' "inappropriate conduct has marred the history of this case," Berens wrote.

Warnicke and Patterson (Blackwell’s legal counsel) had their collective asses handed to them by the Federal Magistrate in GR.

They were smart enough to know the Federal case is past being on thin ice so they now have filed against Dantonio with a civil rights/racial discrimination charge at the state level in Wayne County. Known to lawyers as county whose jury awards are much more generous than any other county in the state.

However, Tucker appears to be mending fences. Blackwell’s influence among HS coaches, players and player arenas is taking a beating with the state “Stay at home” policy along with schools canceled.

Add that to the news MSU has canceled all camps (other universities, colleges and HS in MI are sure to follow) and Blackwell’s SMSB is currently dead in the water.

No college is going to hire Blackwell after this.
