Bob Weir on the DL until 2015 at earliest - all Furthur and RatDog shows cancelled.
WOTS is another stint in rehab - sounds like it might be prescription meds due to a back issue but nothing confirmed.

The Dead in 2015
The "Core Four" (Bobby, Phil, Mickey, and Bill) are doing some sort of reunion in 2015. Probably a handful of the big festivals and a couple of residencies (MSG?, Shoreline?, Red Rocks?). Interesting post and speculation of interlocking sets with Phish at Lock'n next September.

What's your favorite live shows? Been picking through late 60's to 77. Any specific sets I should check out?

I know everyone raves about 77 but I have real problems with Donna wailing away especially on Playin.
I recommend:
Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, New York February 19th, 1971
Bickershaw Festival, Wigan, England May 7th, 1972
Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, Virginia October 9th, 1989
RFK Stadium, Washington DC June 20, 1992

I am ridiculously close to buying tickets for the July 5th Chicago show on Stubhub. I have the money, so I'm just waiting for the price to drop a little more. Probably will buy tickets tomorrow night after I get paid again for work.
I don't get how the Santa Clara shows have such cheap tickets (it's like $30 versus $200 to see them in Chicago), though. You'd think with the band originating in SF, that they'd be so popular there that they wouldn't have trouble selling out the place. I actually figured the Bay Area shows would sell out or be more expensive than the Chicago shows, but that isn't the case. I wonder why that is, because I'm very baffled by it.

A couple of reasons....
1. Soldier Field was handled really poorly - it should have never been picked. Bears season ticket holders (PSL) have first right on all shows there. So they snatched up at least 50,000 tickets for each show. That's why the public sale sucked except for the GA field.
2. So Bear fan threw them all up on the secondary market. That created panic and shortage and the prices soared.
3. GD Productions were getting hammered and also wanted to make some more bucks (I'm looking at you Phil) so they announced the two for this weekend. No PSLs to deal with there.
4. Also the two West Coast shows relieved some of the demand and prices adjusted.
5. All the shows are sold out - people are dumping below face. A lot were probably bet as a speculative purchase.
And I use Seatgeek - Dead. Great aggregator.

Holding out for them to come to NYC.
I will probably pay for the streaming pay per view. BTW, is Donna Godchaux back?

No Donna or Tom Constanten.
Streams available this weekend and next / also PPV next weekend. Sirius doing all shows on the GD Channel.
WOTS is there may be some fall shows with the Core Four and John Mayer stepping in the Jerry spot.
These shows were billed as the last ever for this lineup but it's rock n roll so you never know.

Man, if they had more shows I'd be super-pumped. I need to deposit my paycheck tomorrow, and then I'm probably springing for tickets for the 5th in Chicago.
Think they'll come in time if I order tomorrow? I'm a little worried it's too late but I didn't have a chance to deposit money today.

Not sure if Dylan discussion is allowed in here but I've been digging his last album. His last performance on Letterman was incredible.
Is there a recording of that rehearsal available?

Haven't seen it yet but the first show is tonight. I'm sure it will pop up - that stuff always does.

Wasn't going to be able to make it to Chicago in time, so I opted to go to the lake instead. Slightly bummed to not be there and will try to go if they're closer to here (fingers crossed!).
Going to see Phish in Watkins Glen next month, though, so still some good music on the horizon.

It's official....
The Grateful Dead Is Resurrected Once More, This Time With John Mayer
Dead & Company will make its debut at Madison Square Garden on Halloween.
Three of the Dead’s "core four" players -- guitarist Bob Weir and drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann -- plan to continue the party, with John Mayer on guitar. Their first performance as Dead & Company is set for Halloween night (Oct. 31) at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Joining the group on bass is Oteil Burbridge of the Allman Brothers and Aquarium Rescue Unit and Ratdog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti.

John Mayer and The Core Three have just been killing it on this new tour. I will be seeing them Saturday in Greensboro.
They've played 74 unique songs in the first 7 shows.
Average show is:
First set. 7 songs in about 1 hour 20 minutes
45 minute set break
Second set: 9 songs 1 hour 30 minutes
Encore: 1 song 10 minutes

Dead & Company
Friday June 10, 2016 PNC Music Pavilion Charlotte NC
Set I
The Music Never Stopped bw
Cold Rain & Snow jm
Friend Of The Devil bw jm
They Love Each Other jm
Liberty bw
Cassidy bw
The Promised Land bw
Set II
Eyes of the World bw >
Deal jm >
Estimated Prophet bw >
Drums/ Space >
Feel Like A Stranger bw >
Black Peter bw >
Turn On Your Lovelight bw
Sound was muddy and volume too low for entire first set. They fixed it for second set. I was in pavilion. Place looked pretty packed probably 18000 there. Where were these people four yrs ago when Furthur struggled to sell 4000 tickets.
No encore which was fine by me. Mayer is the real deal and makes this band cook. Worth your while.
