I wouldn't say it's "cool", it's really just a .gif meant for trolling. Not to say I have a problem with head shots in hunting game, cause I don't.
How would you say elk tastes in comparison to Michigan venison?

It's... Aaaaaaahhhh... Different. My current opinion is that there is no better meat than an elk back strap. But in next week I might have some pronghorn cooked just right and change my mind. I think my favorite thing about game meat is that it's so different. I've had bad game, no doubt. "Gamey" is a word for a reason. But if the animal's diet is right and it's field dressed and butchered right, I think it's all great.

Nice, I've chickened out of buying elk "steaks" a few times but still plan on trying it at some point.

After a month of having no shooters in bow range I drilled a buck last night on 23 in my truck. And it sucked.

Well.... our UP deer camp looks like it's going to be cancelled. We were supposed to leave tomorrow for our camp in Ewen and it's being predicted that 25" of snow will be on the ground by tomorrow afternoon. I don't think we can get the trucks down the 2 tracks to get remotely close to the cabin not to mention all the blowing and drifting that will occur.

I peddling along yesterday around 19 mph.. up toward Laingsburg.. and one ran out in front of me.. probably the closest I've ever been to a deer.. it was kind of interesting because typically I'm not much into wildlife.

Yup and about 5 miles of unplowed 2 tracks with 4X4's in that snow is a tall order. I like the snow but 25" is a bit much. I think we'll end up at a buddies cabin over in club country by Atlanta. At least we won't have to deal with all that snow and the wolves...

Just a few coyotes and bears. Watch for the locals though, don't insult their women.

Did that too when we started hunting up that way and we now have the cabin…. I kind of miss those day’s when we tented it. We started at Rose, moved to Boise Blanc Island then were all over the UP and as for the Atlanta area, I know what you mean! Never had an issue with the yotes or bear (or ladies) that way but I can tell you several encounters about bears and wolves in the UP… Well, I think they were bears, but they could have been the local ladies too.

I see Negaunee is reporting 43" on the ground and more coming. We're even forecast for 4" by mid day tomorrow and no high temp over freezing for a week so it may stick.
Pretty unusual opening day conditions. I remember 1 opener over by Curran in the mid 80's that we got 6-8"'s of snow the night before. But definitely the exception not the norm.

I was wondering how many UP deer camps got FUBAR'ed with this super early global climate warming change snowfall.

Heading up to the property tonight for a four day weekend! Hoping to drop a buck and a doe. Can't wait, weather is supposed to be perfect. Deer should be on their feet, especially with the stinky fat loud gun hunters making a racket all over the deer woods!!

Re: Swill Deer Hunting Thread.
Well, ours is fubar'ed for the UP so were heading to my buddies Atlanta cabin and several other people I know have cancelled or are making alternative plans. I chatted with a buddy last night who made it into his UP his camp before the snow and he's locked in. He can't make it any of his blinds and is worried that he won't be able to get out to make it home. We may have to do a rescue mission sometime next week for him if he can't break out.

Re: Swill Deer Hunting Thread.
Talked to my neighbor last night, he's got a 10 point, an 8 point and a 6 point on his trail cam. I've got a 3 point on mine. Since then the farmers have cut the corn and the beans in the adjoining fields and all I've seen are 3 or 4 does about 250 yards out. Debating with myself as to whether or not I want to go sit in my backyard or go to state land. It looks like there's actually some deer moving through where I've been hunting the last several years again. They got wiped out a couple years ago by some disease that ran through the area.

Just imagine how you'll be once we put you in the blind Saturday morning. Bring an extra box of kleenex.

Going to the thumb. Father in law has a farmer buddy who lets him thin the herd. Taking the 11 year old for his first hunt. We are going to freeze our asses off, but they say it's like fish in a barrel on the farm... so... maybe we can get ours and be home quickly.

I've shot 3 so far with my bow at 20 yards or more. I've killed two raccoons as well. I'm deadly with the sticks.

It should, but listen to him, when he taps out, bow out gracefully and make sure his hot chocolate is hot when you get back to the truck. Man! I really miss those days when my daughter was learning the ropes and now I have to wait a few more years before my change of life son will be old enough to accompany me out. Good luck all, I'm hitting the road shortly!
