I wiffed on 2 (more accurately... couldn't find one, probably missed one)... the kid shot and missed one. Should have shot again. Whined like an 11 year old.
The whole weekend was kind of depressing and reminds me why I quit hunting 15 years ago.

The only thing I saw all weekend was a six point in the back of a pickup truck and a gut pile where I should have hunted opening day.

Yeah, at least we had action. I highly suggest shooting up people's farms. Sitting in the woods in the UP without a chance of seeing anything is even more depressing to me.

A lot of folks do. Sometimes the best browse for deer is along the edge created by the road corridor.

Just got back from camp and I saw a few deer but not close enough for any shots and a small heard of cow elk. I'll be heading back up on Friday.

I fell into water up to my shoulders on Saturday afternoon. Surprisingly, my waders didn't fill before I could crawl out.

Sat for 3 hours tonight in 15 degree weather. Saw one spike that almost got smoked at 100 yards until I saw antler through my scope. I still have doe tags to fill so that would not have been good in an APR zone.

A guy at work has a place in a 11,000 acre club property between Hubbard Lake and Alpena. Residents are required to report when they are hunting, kills, and what they saw. He came back today and said so far numbers there are down by 65% from last year. According to him, everyone at his club believes last winter made a major hit on on the population

The way it's going so far, this winter isn't going to help things out either.

Re: Swill Deer Hunting Thread.
Anyone ever hunt State land? I have the stupid license, kinda feel like I should try to kill something again, but the place I went opening weekend with family was 3 hours away.
In the past (90s), I felt like State land seems like the wild west. Locals would just as well shoot your ass to protect "their" spot. There is an element of danger.

I've pretty much always hunted state land. Sometimes you do okay and sometimes the yokel that just walked in off the street gets the deer you've been watching for three months. I've never had much problem with people claiming territory, you either get there first or you don't.

I am still withouth a Odocoileus virginianus this season. First time since 2006 if I can't close the deal this month. Hoping with all the gun hunters retreating back into the warmth of their homes that they deer will get back on normal patterns.

I have a stand that is located between a river and a slow flowing creek. Creek had about 1/2" of ice. I attempted to break through and cross. I lost my footing and went for a swim. I had to feel around for about 30 seconds to find my gun on the bottom. Very cold. Fortunately, I was only 200 yards from a 50 degree barn and a change of clothing. I'm going to attempt to make it to that stand tomorrow since it's a freaking awesome spot.

We are now less than two months away from bow season. I can't stand it, it can't get here soon enough.
I've been kind of in a dry spell. Since I shot my big buck in 2013, I got blanked in '14, and only got one big doe in '15.
16 is the year of 3 or 4 kills. Bank it.

Brown and furry season where I live this year. I'm in the CWD area where you can get unlimited permits for buck and doe. Figures, the deer were just starting to recover from the disease that wiped most of them out in this area a few years ago.

Nah, I've not been there for a few years now. I used to attend every year when I lived closer to it.

Well we all kind of look alike. White, redneck, patriotic garb. I didn't see a single anthem kneeler the entire time I was there.
