Saw lots of deer, nothing to shoot or that gave me a shot. One our hunting group got a fat doe on Friday evening.

Man do I love hunting.

I shot a big fat doe tonight.  Can't find it.  Only found four small blood drops.  Found my broken off bolt with hair and fur on it.  I heard her crash a couple times in the thick stuff, but it got dark so fast that it was tough to track with zero blood.  going back out at first light to see if I can find her.  pissed!!!!

tTy, do you know anyone with a tracking dog? Some guys will offer as service for hire if you don't know anyone. Decent bird dog/retriever can actually hold a trail too.

Didn't find her..... I blame myself. I will never take another "quartering toward" shot again. Ever. I've made this shot successfully three other times, and the deer never made it past a 100 yards. This one, I don't know. There was plenty of blood, it had to have been at least a one lunger. I didn't push her hardly at all, and she just didn't bed down and die in the night, unfortunately. Fuck! Makes me sick....

We tracked it almost 600 yards, through three different parcels (Yes I got permission from all land owners involved), across a road, into a swampy area, and the blood became sparser and sparser and eventually it just dried up. I had 6 friends out there and never would have gotten halfway to the end that we eventually came to by myself. Those guys were incredible. They found blood that I'd have glanced over easily. At least it was a good learning experience.

Never a quartering toward shot again during archery..... Dammit, I'm so mad at myself.

I thought about this, but didn't do it.  I probably should have.  I doubt that deer is alive right now.

Note to self, and FFR.....

Dude, happened to me Sunday night. Quartering shot, 30 yards. Arrow hit her, didn't go through hit opposite shoulder. See her run off. Blood trail started 30 yards from where I hit her. Couple of spots it looked like a murder scene there was so much blood. She made it to the swamp, last blood found on leaf in middle of swamp. Then the rain came.

No sign of her. Even went out late and looked around to see if we could see my lighted nock anywhere.

Crazy. I am done with quartering shots too. The window is just too small. I feel sick to my stomach. I pray she lived, rather than die and all that meat go to waste.

Worst. Feeling. Ever.

Found a nice scrape out in my backyard. Maybe I will buy a license this year (and not just to make it legal, I really hadn't planned on hunting this year)

Cousin just called. Doe #1 from the weekend before has been found:

20 yds from a main trail that several of us have traversed multiple times since the night I shot her. can't believe she went to waste. I feel horrible about it.

tTy, the shot on the just now found doe ended up being in the base of the neck. Bad shot. I will never shoot without decent lighting (it was too close to dark with the heavy canopy because the trees don't seem to want to lose their leaves this year).

Why would she go to waste? Do you and your kin have weak immune systems?

Careful bringing that buck out of the woods:
Hunter impaled by antler of elk he just killed

A hunter in Oregon was impaled by an elk had had just killed after his ATV crashed over the weekend, sending him backward into the animal’s antlers, KATU reported.

Gary Heeter, 69, suffered the injury while trying to drive up steep terrain in the Maury Mountains on Saturday.

What a dummy. Needed a long pull rope on that, why would you put the head on the ATV then go uphill. This should have been a Darwin moment.

tTY I'm sick to my stomach. Had a absolute monster 8 at 17 yds. full draw, "meah" to stop him. let arrow fly. see my lighted nock take a left turn, thwack the tree 4 ft to his left.

tonight, I'm in the same stand, can see the spot on a 1 1/2" sapling missing bark at 12 yds.

I'm gonna throw up when i go in tonight.

Funny how one little tree can eff everything up.

Got a very nice 8 point on my camera at about 1:30 in the morning yesterday.
