Spartans in the NBA/Pro Hoops
This guy loves him some DayDay:
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/thompson/2015/01/08/draymond-green-lives-formula-hasnt-failed-yet/
Why does this matter? Because this is the core of why Green has emerged from an overlooked second-round pick to one of the most valuable players on the best team in the NBA. This is the essence behind a game that’s flourished so much Green could be looking at a $12 million raise this summer.
Green is a walking collage of intangibles, but the main one is his insatiable appetite for vindication. His true passion is to conquer so he can let others hear it about his conquest.
His M.O. is to talk trash, thereby putting himself on the hook to have to produce. Then he talks more after he produces.
It’s no wonder Green’s tough. He’s spent the last decade-plus under the pressure of having to back up his lip service and scrap with those who couldn’t handle it.

Long, but very good IMO. Last I had heard Day Day was supposed to be in the 7-9 mil range, now he's in the 12 mil range? Amazing, congrats to him and I hope he can get it done.

Deadspin loves Draymond

As a "lunch pail" player whose debilitating defense often doesn't show up in the box score, as the cliche goes, Green is usually described by writers with a thesaurus worth of cliches for hard-working. Being from Saginaw, Michigan, contributes to the narrative. It is decently accurate, but also betrays the ludicrous amount of confidence Green has in his own abilities. He was an unheralded second round pick, but Draymond Green is playing his way into a max contract through sheer force of will.
He's a goon. He's arrogant. He's disrespectful. He's an asshole.
He's my favorite player in the NBA.

Take green and compare him to anyone on out current team. Its embarrassing to see how far away he is from this roster and that's on izzo.

As a junior Green looked a lot like Valentine does now. He was good for 5 of the team's best 6 or 7 plays, and 5 of the 6 or 7 worry plays on a nightly basisBlanch32 wrote:

Much as I hate to respond to your normal idiocy.
Take any 3rd year NBA player/starter and compare them to players on most college rosters. Duh.

That is actually a great point. DV has been driving me nuts lately but Green used to do the same crap.

Been posting updates in other threads, let's try and keep it going in this one instead.
Harris and Payne both started tonight.
Gary played 16 minutes in a blowout loss to Utah. Seems like maybe his 2nd or 3rd start in a row. 1-4, 0-3 from deep, 1 rebound, 0 assists, 1 TO, -31 in the +/- and 2 points. Yuck.
AP started for the 2nd time in 3 games. KG was a DNPCD for some reason. He played 27 minutes. Was 3-7 for 6 points, 5 boards, 1 TO, 5 PF and +/- of -1.
Day Day and GSW romped the Raptors in Toronto. He started and played 28 minutes. 6-9, including 3-5 from 3, 2-2 from the line. 17 points, 8 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks, 3 fouls. +43. Draymond is gonna get himself a monster deal. Not sure about max, but it's gonna be close. Last I heard, it was gonna be like 13-14 mil in all likelihood.

Have not seen tha Timbas play but am curious about AP's role on O. Seems like he should get some outside looks if he can knock down the three.

AP with a monster board over 2 guys late in the 4th, Wolves down 8. He goes up for the put back, gets fouled, sinks 2. He has 12 (new career high). Gets pulled for KG for the last 5 minutes.

Can't remember if I mentioned it in the other thread or not, but the addition of KG to the Wolves could potentially be very good for Payne. The younger players are saying he's being a very positive influence and mentor.

Yeah, I mean obviously Adreian isn't quite on KG's talent level, and he's a couple inches shorter, but the games are somewhat similar. If Payne buddies up to the dude and KG takes to him, could be a great mentor.

Re: Spartans in the NBA/Pro Hoops
AP with a nice game. Finishes 4-9 from the field, did not attempt a 3, 4-4 from the line, 5 boards, 1 assist, 1 TO, 4 PF, 12 points, +4 +/-
Nice combo stop in the last minute with Rubio. I think he got a finger on a Paul shot in the lane, he and Rubio came up with the air ball, Rubio grabbed it and called TO as he was going out of bounds. MN missed a 3, Clips sunk 2 and it was over but Adreian is flashing some promise.

I know our eyes will be elsewhere but Harris and the Nuggets visit AP and the Wolves tonight. I don't expect either to start. AP is getting lots of minutes though. Not sure who Denver's new coach is but Harris only got a few minutes last night with the new guy at the helm. Hopefully he plays more tonight.

I'm on the over in the Wolves/Magic game. It's not looking good. But AP is. He has 10 points on 5-8 shooting. Playing smart, too. Not taking bad shots and sharing the ball.

Re: Spartans in the NBA/Pro Hoops
I think he just got pulled due to a lack of hustle. It was pretty bad. He was still playing nice on both ends, and made another shot to get to 12 points on 6 of 9. There was a turnover off of a ball screen he tried to set, and he just stood there as two Magic players raced down the floor on a break. The other guy involved in the ball screen on MN sped back and broke up the layup, and other Wolves players caught up as trailers as Orlando corralled the ball before a foul was called. AP was still out of the picture on the other end of the court. Immediate sub.

Re: Spartans in the NBA/Pro Hoops
"With the 35th pick of the 2012 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors select Draymond Green, Michigan State University," he said.
The pro-Spartan crowd at the draft party erupted at the news emanating from the big-screen TV.
And Green put on a small grin and said all the right things.
"I got my opportunity," the nattily attired Green said. "It's not about where you go or what pick. It's about the fit and I think Golden State will be a great fit for me."
But deep down, thoughts that 29 other NBA teams considered 34 other players better gnawed at him.
He admitted that March 11, just after the Warriors completed their morning shooting-around to prepare for that night's game against the Pistons.
But the forward is poised to cash in on that snub.
The Warriors have indicated they aren't going to let Green go and will match whatever offer sheet he presents.
But can they afford it? There is speculation the Warriors will trade seldom-used power forward David Lee and the $15 million he is owed next season to avoid the luxury tax.
But Green is expected to have suitors. A Yahoo! Sports report said last month that Green is interested in returning to his home state to play for the Pistons.
Green was asked directly about the Pistons rumor.
He really didn't say whether the report was true or not.

Adreian makes some really bad mistakes. Flashes lots of potential on one sequence and looks lost on the next. Hopefully just rookie mistakes. Just got pulled against the Blazers for losing Aldridge twice, taking a bad shot and not hustling. In between, he made a driving layup and blocked a shot.

Lots of talk about AP tonight on Wolves broadcast. They interviewed him pregame. Announcers talking about how he has great moments and bad moments and its all part of the learning curve. Announcers blumping Izzo and his program. Pretty cool to see Day Day guarding Payne and vice versa in the NBA.

Re: Spartans in the NBA/Pro Hoops
Getting traded to Minnesota was the best thing to ever happen to AP. He's started like 10 games in a row or something. He is getting major minutes and learning every night. He makes a TON of mistakes. But they're all correctable, and he flashes major potential. Getting minutes on a terrible/tanking team down the stretch of the season is exactly what he needed.
Not sure if the long issues are better, but AP has a serious skillset. If he continues to trend in the right direction, he absolutely has the talent and skillset to start for a serious title contender. He's good.

Went to the Nets game Friday night, and had court side seats. Was pissed off that Alan Anderson and John Wall didn't play (two players from my favorite teams). Should i file the same law suit that irate San Antonio spurs fan filed when the Spurs rested their stars?

Love seeing the Nets at Barclays. I was there a week before last Tuesday when they played the Pacers.
It's a nice stadium, eh? A little on the small side but whatevs.... it'll be cool seeing the Islanders there next year (for those that will still be in NYC, unlike moi).

She doesn't need to be trash talking a Spartan about a physical ailment he was born with. It's not like he get winded because he doesn't work hard. Weak sauce IMO.

I like MSG better to be honest. It's louder. I've been to a couple nets games where it felt like everyone just sat there quietly.xsanguine wrote:steveschneider wrote:Went to the Nets game Friday night, and had court side seats. I agree seeing the islanders there would be awesome. Prob not a bad seat in the house for a hockey game.
Also, brook Lopez is amazing to watch. He had a great game Friday.
