FWIW there is no bad bourbon (except Woodford). I will match your ole grand dad with evan williams any day and we will both be happy.

I measure a bad whisky of any sort by whether it gives me a headache. This OG doesn't and the taste is kinda alright.

Just tried some West Cork Blended Irish Whiskey last night. It's cheap and it's NOT BAD MAN!
I wanted it to have a little more bite, but for the price, it's great. Gotta drink it neat. Anything else ruins its subtlety.

I've been drinking a 5th of Whiskey from The Longroad Distillery in Grand Rapids. It's 61% ABV and is actually not bad for only aging around 6 months.
Excited for the Pig & Whiskey festival in Ferndale in a couple of weeks. Anyone else going?

Ever try Eagle Rare? I prefer it over both in that price range.

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
I know I posted this somewhere else but apparently not here. This is an amazingly good bourbon for only being aged 6-7 years. You're gonna pay for it ($90), but if you're building a collection I'd add this to your stockpile.

I like Buffalo Trace better that Eagle Rare. But it is still good.

I will be there, let me know if you guys go. I went last year and it was awesome, 90 degree heat, got absolutely bombed and ate a ton of BBQ.

Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are both made by the same distillery actually (Buffalo Trace Distillery). I prefer Eagle Rare as it has a bit more refined taste from being a single-barrel whiskey that is aged a bit longer than the blended whiskeys that comprise Buffalo Trace.

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
tWife got this for me for my birthday. It's an experimental bourbon from Orphan Barrel. As this is my first 21 year old bourbon I don't have much to compare it to. It has mixed reviews on various site. You can definitely taste the age in it. Gonna see if the flavor changes at all after breaking it open. It's pretty good for my standards as is anyway.

I bought a bottle of traverse city whiskey or bourbon. Tastey, I'd recommend. Almost like Jack, but much another imo.

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
Got into this last night. tWife bought it because of the "story" behind it. The barrels were put on an ocean research ship and yada yada yada, I thought it was a gimmick to up the price. I think she paid $80.
Anyway, it was pretty good, and had a salty/briny finish (not in a bad way). It's a unique taste and I still think it's overpriced but for something different I'd give it a shot.

picked up some Jameson Black Barrel a week or so ago... I don't regret it. It's been around for a little bit, I guess - but it was new to me at the time.
very affordable, as well.

Bob drinks Irish whisky... How ironic. Although his being Irish would explain not being able to swim. Tough to picture a ginger hipster though.

I want to try Rye. Can I drink it straight or do I need to do something to it? I don't like mixing.

You can definitely drink it straight. Russel Reserve is good. Ri is pretty good. Bulleit makes a decent one.

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
THE 9 STRONGEST BOURBONS FOR YOUR BUCK
In the wide, beautifully boozy world of whiskey, bourbon stands out for its value. Unlike its Scottish brethren, you can get the good shit for a just few Hamiltons. But there is one major trick for getting way more bang for your buck.
Matthew Landan, owner of Haymarket Whiskey Bar, clued us in on how to spot the best value whiskey. The man stocks more than 100 bourbons at the Louisville, Kentucky establishment, so if anyone knows, it’s him. Most bourbons clock in at 80 proof, but he recommends looking for the bottled-in-bond category. Under the 1897 Bottled-in-Bond Act, these spirits must meet two important requirements: they’re aged for a minimum of four years and are at least 100 proof -- meaning you’re getting more alcohol per bottle.
“The fact is a whiskey that has more proof is more valuable than a whiskey that has lower proof,” says Landan. “You’re getting more alcohol by volume for less money." Now, that’s all good, but which ones are worth drinking? Here are his favorites.

Finally cracked open this bottle last night. Tis the season and all that shit. Really good stuff. It has a slight hint of vanilla to it.
Get yourself a bottle.
