Not much. There is very little barrier to entry. It costs next to nothing to run a forum and anyone with even a limited marketing budget could build up a decent user count fairly quickly.
2nd - Demographics, given the large number of younger non influentials would limit the potential marketing value and the contents could open you up for litigation as a public company.

There is real revenue tied to it now and 247 is a real media network. That said, it kinda blows.

Ooh, it must have been about seven, eight years ago. Me and the little lady was out on this boat, you see, all alone at night, when all of the sudden this huge creature, this giant crustacean from the Paleolithic Era, comes out of the water. It stood above us looking down with these big red eyes and I yelled, I said, "What do you want from us, monster?" And the monster bent down, and said, "I need about tree-fitty."

dude, I don't know... that board has a lot of users and a lot of people visiting. It's the first place most people visit when there's a big MSU related story or game. I think there is some value to that board, along with all the users, content, etc... or at least there was. Clearly, 247 sees value because Trevor was able to turn the RCMB into a money maker.

Thanks for the info, Heat. Interesting stuff.
Not to state the obvious, It is interesting, but it doesn't answer the question. I think those numbers are just based on some algorithm having to do with page views and visitor metrics. It doesn't take into account profitability, revenue streams, long-term viability, etc. Also, that page count is for all of 247 no? They have 2 or 3 fairly large message boards there plus all of the small ones, plus the blue board only guys and recruiting lurkers. Not really a fair comparison.
What am I missing?

So rcmb is worth more than the entire 247 site. Sounds legit.

I don't believe they are getting 600k unique views a day, unless it is counting each time someone switches pages and they might be on mobile, or something like that. That place has a weird way of counting. They could be, but like one of the sites said, that is an insane amount of page views. I wonder if their advertisers have ever looked into those numbers.

Wait, are you saying that as companies make more money with little to no costs for actually maintaining and improving the product, they make more money?!

RCMB's biggest day was in 2012 (most users on at same time). Been a while since...

Re: How much do you think the RCMB was worth pre-247?
There are 74 separate boards. That works out to an average of 8108 unique page views per board. Maybe someone with more internet savvy than I have can explain if that is possible. Is it possible that they have setup the page views to automatically record as unique, so anytime someone refreshes it is counted as a new hit? That would increase the revenue from their supported ads since the advertisers would think they are getting more hits than they actually are. Would that be fraud?gHost Spartan wrote:
How many separate boards do they have? Even if they had a board for every single college football team and the average number of views per day was 1,000 then you'd have about 150,000 views, correct?

Unique means that the IP address is different. So just refreshing wouldn't be unique.

Is my IP address the same behind a VPN? How does it work with mobile? Mobile could be different every time couldn't it? I was hoping Heat Miser could answer some of these questions.LoneWolfSparty wrote:
