Rajai Davis is Fun to Watch
Dude is on fire. Two stolen bases today, 11/13 this season, already more than any Tiger last season.

So true. It's nice to see watch him and Kinsler (yesterday withstanding) on the basepath. I think it's rubbed off on the rest of the team too. I don't remember Cabrera taking as many extra bases on flyouts last year as he has this year. It's much more fun to watch than hoping for 3 run bombs all game.

Crazy what having a little speed on the team can do.
These guys are rolling right now and the D in the OF is greatly improved with him in LF, those guys can cover so much space out there.

Any chance he breaks Hugh Nichol's record of 138 stolen bases in a season?

I think Hugh can rest in peace (does MLB even count that as a record?). Ricky Henderson probably won't lose any sleep either.
32 more bases this season puts Davis in the top all-time for a single season as a Tiger. Pettis is currently 20th.
47 more ties him for 10th with Ron Leflore's '76 season

To be fair, Cabrera was hurt so much last year, he wasn't taking bases when he should have.

For someone as slow as Cabrera, he does a good job of taking exta bases when he can. Always has.Johnny Costanza wrote:So true. ESPN is saying the OF defense is the weakest point of the Tigers defense with Torii Hunter playing the worst defense of all regular starters in baseball. Also saying the Tigers are the worst to second worst defensive team. As is usually the case, ESPN is full of it.
I do think Davis has a pretty inaccurate arm when throwing back to the home plate. Several of his throws are wide, and he had a throw yesterday that wasn't even close.
Love what he brings to the offense and you are correct his speed in the outfield is pretty impressive.

Tori is no longer an above average rightfielder. But his fielding has still been an improvement over his immediate predecessors Mags and Brennan B.
Same with Davis, but still as good or better than the group who has recently played out there....Delmon, Dirks, Raburn

I really liked this pick up just based off of how annoying Davis was against the Tigers on the Oakland A's. Speed makes such a big difference and combined with Ausmus's aggressive take, the Tigers are new team.

Re: Rajai Davis is Fun to Watch
I love watching how a little speed on the base paths can make such a difference. Under the Leyland era of Tigers baseball, the Tigers had to rely on extra base hits and home runs to get run support. Having guys like Davis, who can move up on the bases on their own, are making a huge difference.

Hunter struggled a little bit early, he's been very good of late, same with Jackson and Davis. Any OF arm can be a bit sporadic, Davis did gun someone Saturday I think against the Royals at 2B from the LF foul line, absolute strike. Sure we don't have 3 current gold glove OF's out there right now, but these 3 are a HUGE improvement in a very spacious OF at Comerica. Sure beats running Boesch, Raburn, Ordonez (Good arm, no range), Thames, Young, & Damon out there every day. ESPN is full of shit.

JD Martinez has been a pretty good addition as well.
How accurate are defensive fielding stats anyways? Especially this early in the season. Torii had a few drops early but I still love his speed out there and what he does at the plate.

I swear mlb.com is one of the best deals going. I wish every sport would offer up an ap like that. I'm going to re-watch the 9th inning at lunch with Dan and Jim calling it.
