Hopslam
Happened to do some googling just now and I guess it was a timely search. Sounds like it's just rolling off the lines and starting to ship. Not a huge craft brew guy but I like hopslam and try to get a few sixers every year if I can. If you hear about any making the rounds in metro detroit, post about it please.

Bumpus. Anyone see it at the Meijers on Lake Landing Road yet? I don't want to drive all the way to the other side of town just to pick some up at Horrock.

Re: Hopslam
I haven't had a chance to go check out stores like I did last year as my oldest was sick this week and home with me most days, plus half days the past two days. It sounds like a lot of the allotment in M.D. went to Meijer stores and Busch's. I got a chance to meet some friends for a beer tonight in R.O. and the guy who owns the bar told me he got two barrels. I had one and it was pretty good. I stopped at a party store on the way home for some vodka and mentioned it and the dude went off about how stingy Bells is with the allotments they're sending to party stores. Whatever, I don't really care that much I guess.

Mine only cost $16.99. I'll bet it's not nearly as tasty as yours.

Re: Hopslam
I like a good IPA. Hopslam is good... I wouldn't turn it down. But it is Disney movie type hype release. Just like Oberon...which I happen to love. Bell's makes great beers...probably the best. But they also know great marketing.
The best IPA IMO is Dripa from Kuhnhenn (google it).
Yeah I know I'm being snobby and it doesn't fit the current narrative... but stop in Kuhnhenn anytime...any season...any day and give it a whirl.

Kuhnhenn is that joint on Mound in Warren right? Never been there. Do they sell it in stores? I don't try a lot of this stuff. Yes, a big deal was made of Hopslam and I was able to grab some a few years ago. I thought it was really good and try to get it every year if I can.

Re: Hopslam
Yeah. Mound and Chicago Dr(?)... just north of 12 mile. It used to be (and still looks like) an old hardware store.
WBH Longstory time....
My old man worked at the GM Tech Center for yearrrrssssssss. We would always take that side street to get to his office (whenever I would go with him for some reason or another) and I remember that building distinctly.
A buddy of mine turned me on to Dripa and I loved it. But I had no idea it was made in Michigan. I drove by their place a thousand times (obv now work in the auto industry) without ever knowing it was there. Still looks like a hardware store. Walk in and you get weird stares from Dripa'ed out potheads. They have zero marketing awareness. Weird place for sure. But worth getting a growler or three.
They don't bottle, as far as I know. But some places will have it on tap. Bar Louie is one.

Re: Hopslam
First impressions from an uneducated, non-snobby beer swiller:
•Still enjoy it out of bottles more than these cans.
•The taste seems like it's flatter than the past couple of years.
•Has a stronger bitter taste than the past couple of years, especially at the back end.
•Good taste and full flavor. The batch from two years ago is still tops, IMO, but this is good stuff.
•At 10% abv, it gets you where you want to go.

Good review.
One thing I will say about Bell's is no batch ever tastes the same. Which is good IMO. Unique is good. The first batches of Oberon last spring tasted like Bush Lite (I know many others had the same narrative)... by mid-July it was tasting realllllly good.
FWIW Two Hearted and Oberon taste sweet good out of cans.

Kuhnhenn is North of 13 Mile where Chicago Road runs into Mound...my youth stomping grounds. High school and first two jobs were within very short walking distance. Went to the hardware store many times with my dad as a kid...forget what the place was called. Store occupied only the South side of the building. Think the North end started as a gas station way back. Recall it becoming a VW beetle repair place for a while...pretty weird less than half a mile from the GM Tech Center.Nordic wrote:Yeah. Not much left in old downtown Warren except the funeral home, the attorney's office, and the brewery.

Generally not a fan of IPAs, but I just got two at Peppino's in EL. Surprised how good I feel after these lol
It tastes bad but I like the beer, if that makes sense. Might come back after the game and have a few more

That first blast of hops can be rough sometimes. But you'll soon start to crave it.

Yeah, 13 mile not 12 mile. Definitely google map it if you've never been there otherwise you'll blow right by it.
