And I will take that to my grave. Even if Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket matched the intensity on the first view (which they didn't) they can't compare to Platoon upon further review.

Right, I might actually put Deer Hunter #2.
I really have never understood the lack of respect for Platoon though. It is just as intense as any other war movie but the lines are as good as Caddyshack. I think it might be the best movie ever made.
Platoon and Caddyshack are the only movies I was able to watch more than 10 times.

Apocalypse Now for me, hands down. Platoon is damn good, but the cast and acting in Apocalypse Now is unreal. Brando, Duval, Sheen (the elder), Hopper. Not to mention smaller roles by then-no-names Harrison Ford and Lawrence Fishburne.
