Should the US Push for Intervention in Nigeria?
Agree or Disagree: The US Should Push for Intervention in Nigeria
As most of us know, the Nigerian Islamic group Boko Haram recently Kidnapped 200+ school girls. Since then there has been a growing call for the international community to take action and rescue the girls. What should the role of the US be in this situation? Should the US push for a resolution at the UNSC, lead an intervention in lieu of a successful resolution, or just let Nigeria deal with its own domestic problems?

F that. The Nigerians have all that money laying around that they want to give away, they can fund their own army to take care of the problem.

if we don't intervene, Barack Obama is weak and hurts America's image..
if we do intervene, Barack Obama is a war monger, needlessly spending American taxpayers money and this hurts America's image.

It's both a federal and fractured state. Some northern Nigerian states have non-state police and security forces enforcing Islamic law and do not respect the authority of the central government. The signals to me that the central government struggles to maintain anything like a monopoly of force. Beyond that, the army is reportedly part of the problem. Claims that the army is responsible for human rights violations in the north are becoming more common, and this only makes the Boko Haram more attractive. Overall, the fracture between the north and south seems pretty big and it seems like northern states are capable of resisting the central government's power.
