10 Seconds to History - New Book
MSU-UM football book excerpt: 10 seconds to history
You know an event is one for the ages when everyone can tell you where they were at that moment. Ten years from now, a million people might tell you they were in Michigan Stadium on Oct. 17, 2015.
With 10 seconds left and Michigan ahead of Michigan State, 23-21, Australian punter Blake O’Neill mishandled a low snap, a swarm of MSU “Rangers” overwhelmed his outflanked blockers, the ball somehow floated to an unknown redshirt freshman, Jalen Watts-Jackson, who wildly dashed 38 yards for a touchdown, equal parts chaos and silence ensued in the Big House, and the entire sport of college football and one of its most bitter rivalries had witnessed a play for all time.
In “The Perfect :10,” available now for preorders, Jack Ebling and Joe Rexrode reveal the behind-the-scenes intricacies and the untold stories of this epic moment — the players on the field, the men making the decisions and their role in history.

Re: 10 Seconds to History - New Book
I'd never heard this part of the story:
By this time, Jalen was in an ambulance with Shingles, as Rick and Terra drove separately to meet them. Jalen was still in extreme pain, until Shingles pulled his left leg, easing some of the pressure. Then the ambulance hit a large bump. Jalen yelped, but he suddenly felt relief.
“I heard the pop, and the hip was back in place,” he said. “I said, ‘OK, Doc, you can let go.’”

The doctor's name is Shingles.

Where were you, what did you do?
Harrison road house. Kid had to do spirit squad at Jenison she leaves at the end of the third quarter. Play happens we score some 6'5" 250 LN millennial runs up to me and puts me in a bear hug and cracks some cartilage in my ribs. Couldn't inhale properly for two weeks.
Got to Jenison, ticket lady was hugging everyone who came in. Surreal night.

In my family room with my son in law, had pretty much resigned myself to the loss but still had the game on. When he lateraled the snap I started yelling loud enough that my daughter came running from the other end of the house convinced that I was having the big one. Laughed uproariously at unpredictable moments that night and ever since.

In the big house. MSU ish section opposite end zone of jalens touchdown. Rolling pretty good still. Row 70 or so. Up there. Dejected. Losing a lot of $. Arms crossed. Silent. Realized he bobbled it - looked up to the screen, jalen had it and cut back. Looked to field and see he is in. Chaos in the stands. Rows of Spartans all over each other like it was sexual assault. Going nuts with 2 of my friends who also had a lot of $ on MSU ml. A lot of money was made and the feeling walking out of there was unreal!
Saw my cousins walking out of the tunnel - went more nuts, and then laid on the golf course while we waited for my friend to find the weed he hid outside the stadium. Went back to a house and celebrated the rest of the night. Great fuckin night wagsy.

Re: 10 Seconds to History - New Book
Home, following the game on Twitter, listening to Blaha & Strayhorn. Eyes burning holes in the screen as I watched scUM fans rejoicing, and MSU fans despairing. Trying to maintain a stoic balance as I wanted to burn the motherfucking Hole down.
My Twitter feed was about 15 - 20 seconds ahead of the radio, so all of a sudden, Twitter exploded - from "OH MY GOD!" to "MSU WINS!!!!!" to "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" I had no fucking clue what was going on, and went from "What?" to "What the?" to "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK HAPPENED?" before Blaha told me that, well, he fumbled the snap. Strayhorn started bellowing, and I sat back, smiling. Chuckling. Full blown laughter. Couldn't stop.
Still chuckle to this day. Fuckers had it coming.

But the time you spend in football threads telling us you're not interested in football so overwhelms the actual time humans spend watching an actual game, it's pretty much a wash.

So you enjoy making fun of people for caring about MSU sports on an MSU sports message board?
It doesn't sound very fun, challenging or interesting. Yet you have devoted years of your life and thousands of posts to it.

But why do you devote so much effort to things you dislike?
If I didn't like say Bruce Springsteen I wouldn't spend 20 hours a week for 10 years on a Bruce Springsteen message board making fun of his music and his fans.
I suppose there must be some deep rooted psychological issues involved.
