I should probably see the movie before trying to get into this show, yeah?

You should see the movie regardless. Your life will never be the same. TV show is unrelated, except in the way the stories are told.

After two episodes I'm not really feeling this year's Fargo. It seems forced - like they're trying too hard to replicate their formula: mysterious off the wall bad guy, doofus civilians who get caught up in wacky criminal doings and the straight arrow law enforcement who diligently pursue the smallest of clues and eventually unravel the whole mess.

Watching the season 3 opener now, and so far my basic problem is that it's only set seven years ago. Liked it better when the stories were a couple of decades ago. Also not wild about McGregor in dual roles.

Re: Fargo (tv series)
I'm assuming you're talking about the ending? The season was ok, not great, still better than most tv out there though. I do hate endings that are ambiguous though. Just fucking end the story and be done with it. I also thought everything except the last scene worked out a little too well. It did have some highlights though, except the bowling scene was very bizarre.

My main problems were the glaring plot holes:
1. Varga escapes thru the elevator. He didn't really look like the kind of guy who could jump thru hatch, open an elevator door and escape down the stairs - all on the trip from the 3rd floor from the 1st floor.
2. That chick learned sign language in 4 months?
3. Same chick has magic mechanic powers where car breaks down in middle of nowhere.
4. Ewen MacGregor's car starts right up again after the shootout. However he left his phone right in the middle of road.
5. Hated when he was killed 5 years later. Doesn't make any sense. Just was an excuse to show Sy and then wrap the loose end.
I was ok with the ambiguous ending - didn't like the way we got there.

Re: Fargo (tv series)
I guess I blocked some of those out. You're correct though. The chick was like a jack of all trades and some sort of criminal mastermind who loved her parole officer? I never got the indication from the show that her and Ray were as close as they made it out to be after he was killed. I thought the same thing about the car, it breaks down, but then it starts again just fine? I thought Emmit, or whatever his name was, would get busted for leaving a phone at the scene of a shootout between a fugitive and a highway patrol guy, but what do I know?Dr. Strangelove wrote:InTenSity wrote:I'm assuming you're talking about the ending? I did like the chase scene though in the woods. Wasn't expecting the guys head to pop off.

Re: Fargo (tv series)
I was better than ok with the season. The last cliff hanger kind of sucked. If it (the cliff hanger) is resurrected in future seasons, it still sucked. I think the best lesson any director/producer can learn is the Shawshank principle. Leave your audience satisfied.

Caught the end the movie last weekend, saw this thread and fired up S1. On S1E7. Awesome.

I'd say 1, 2/3, 4. The second and third are kind of a tossup, maybe a slight lean to 2 because I like that it was set further back in time.

Re: Fargo (tv series)
Finished S2. I was a little skeptical after watching e1, the setup episode was a bit clunky. But it was awesome. Loved the storyline. E2-7 were excellent. So many good characters. Only real beef is the final episodes in both seasons dragged a bit. They could of trimmed them down to 8 or 9 episodes. I also didn't get the sudden storytime narration starting in e9. But over excellent.

I think season 3 has ewen mcgregor... Pretty good. When you get to 4, Chris rock has drama chops.
Issue with the show, it seems like it took what 3-4 years for season 4 to be released...

I keep seeing the S4 preview, and keep asking myself, is Chris Rock really a gangster?

It was a good three years between 3 and 4, maybe four. My favorite episodes this season were 1 and the last one in black and white and Rock wasn't in either one. He's doing good work, but sometimes I have a hard time taking his voice seriously in drama.
