Re: Haz Iz lost it?
I think you have lost it.
Time to grow up an realize Izzo's roster at the end of May looks a helluva lot different than it does now.
The losses of grad transfer Carter and senior Schilling meant two less 4/5's, switching 6'5" Arhens to a 3/4, putting at least an extra 5-8 minutes on former walkon Goin's back and expecting a lot more minutes from freshman Ward. Former walkon Van Dyk is getting regular minutes. Now 6'7" Bridges 2/3/4/5 is out with an ankle injury that will last who knows how long.
Izzo is left to trying to make chicken salad with what's turning into chickenshit line ups.
A great freshman class was supposed help. Winston is looking better and could be starting ahead of low or no scoring Tum Tum soon. Ward is playing beyond his years but the season is young. Bridges is hurt and Langford looks like he can't get into or doesn't understand Izzo's offense.
Izzo will be here until he wants to leave and I expect that will be no more than 5 seasons when he is 67.

If I were a mod of this board I would move this post.

I am having trouble calling Carter a loss since we never had him. And I questioned at the time why we were taking a transfer with a blown out knee.

Re: Haz Iz lost it?
Probably not the place to ask this, but fuck it.
If Tom Crean were to become available and Izzo were to state publicly something along the lines of "I'm retiring in two years," how would you guys feel about Crean taking over after Izzo?
Actually, that's an absurd hypothetical, this board is the perfect place for that...

Really wanted Brad Stevens, but dude doesn't have to spend his off time recruiting and is doing a good job in Boston. I don't think he's possible anymore unless he flames out.
I'd be OKAY with Crean, but he's majorly underachieved at Indiana. Has he ever made it past the Sweet 16 there? Even with that stud-loaded #1 team he bottomed out pretty early in the NCAAs.
Crean just feels too much like a safety valve hire. I'd rather take the risk and promote from within with Fife, or hire someone completely out of the MSU family tree.

Hypothetical yes but crean would not leave IU for MSU.

Re: Haz Iz lost it?
I personally would not want Crean. I just hate his face. I also feel like he gets better recruits at IU than he would get at MSU, and he still can't win anything significant with them. I don't know enough about our assistants to know if I'd want any of them to be the next HC. Having said that, I would worry a little about an outside hire because I'm not sure how much we would open the checkbook, and I worry that settling for not our #1 choice and having that guy also not have any connection to the program could just set the whole thing off the rails.

I trust Izzo enough to let him make the call. He's deserved it just as much as Jud did.

Re: Haz Iz lost it?
I wouldn't trade Izzo for Crean even if that was possible. I can't stand Crean and I don't think Izzo has really lost it yet like Dantonio has.
Now Dantonio for Duzzi or some others would make me think

Yes, I am also in the keep Dantonio camp. But if Fleck or Duzzi were hired today, would MSU football win more games in the next five years than Dantonio? I think that is a good possibility. I don't think any coach could win more games than Izzo at MSU, at least not without cheating. I suppose Coach K and maybe a couple of others that are never going to come here could legitimately bring in a couple more 5 stars.

agree. our bball team is like our football team, no line play since we lost our centers.
good news is that we have izzo, and he knows how to make in season adjustments unlike dantonio. personally, i blame hollis since no way no how should we have scheduled that time this year. especially not after how they played us tough last year.

i definitely don't want to promote from within, vut i am 100% behind izzo making the call. he earned it, dantonio clearly has not.

Re: Haz Iz lost it?
My scenario wasn't a trade, because I don't think anyone would make that trade. I was just curious how Crean is regarded around here. Seems like most are lukewarm at best about his coaching ability, which is more or less what I was expecting.Herbie Green wrote:I wouldn't trade Izzo for Crean even if that was possible.
