OP, I admire your willingness to defend the city even though you're not a native. However, as someone who was born and raised in metro D and worked in the city for a while, it is incredibly hard to me to defend it above and beyond 'it's not the worst.' Yes, there are some things that are very nice about the city. I can count them on maybe 1.4 hands. 2 of them are sports teams. Outside that, the city is a known embarrassment and there's really nothing I can say to make the point otherwise. I love Detroit, I'll always be a Detroiter, and it will always have a place in my heart, but the time has come for all Detroiters to realize that the city is what it is...a mess that needs a clean sweep.

I only argue with people who think there is NOTHING good about Detroit and act like you're crazy to step foot in any part of the city limits. That being said, if someone called it the worst major city in America, I would have to agree based on the major cities I've visited so far in my life.
