The point is there’s a huge group of people who refuse to get a colonoscopy, in large part out of fear of the procedure. At least the poop in a box is something doctors can work with, based on experience with the product and understanding its limits. Better that than telling someone they have stage 3 or 4 colon cancer and should get their affairs in order.
You have to stab the turd with a little swab like device and send that along with it as well. I believe they run multiple tests on both the swab and the turd for control and the likelihood of multiple false negatives on the same batch is pretty much zero.

Butt, can happen according to the disclaimer.Motown Spartan wrote:The Pantry wrote:Which is exactly what might happen if there's a false negative.

Yeah, the swab has three grooves. You have to roll it around in it. Obviously, the colonoscopy is the best thing to get. I’m fairly confident in this.

While it is better at detecting cancer than FIT (74% vs 92% for FIT test vs Cologuard), the false positive rate is higher. The Cologuard false-positive rate is 13%, and that rate increases as people age.
Cologuard is less accurate than a colonoscopy at detecting polyps of any size. A colonoscopy can detect 95% of large polyps but the stool test only detects 42%.
According to clinical studies, the false negative rate for a Cologuard test is around 8%; meaning that 8% of patients with colorectal cancer may receive a negative result on a Cologuard test.
Obviously, those aren’t the percentages you like to see.
Like I said, I’m more worried about a false negative.

If you’re saying everyone should skip Cologuard and go straight to the colonoscopy, you’ll get no argument from me. But that’s not realistic for a multitude of reasons, including the one I mentioned earlier (fear).
Look, I get that you have a high level of disgust for big Pharma. You’ve voiced that here often. My guess is a lot of us here, me included, share some percentage of those feelings. But science and medicine aren’t made up entirely of absolutes, which is what you’re demanding. You’re born, you die. Those are pretty much all the medical guarantees right now. With luck and some effort, there’s a large amount of time between those two events, but everything in the middle is still kind of a crapshoot.
In so much of medicine, there are odds; some great, some good, some less than that. Considering there’s now a noninvasive home test on the market with a better than 90% correct diagnosis rate, that’s pretty good considering how new the science is, and it’s very likely going to continue getting better. As I said earlier, it’s better for those people who won’t or can’t get a colonoscopy to get tested in some way.

Did you have to stop eating corn a couple days before?
I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. That was uncalled for.

No but I’ll be damned if I didn’t find my wife’s missing car keys.

You’ve always said she’s a shitty driver.
(That one was too easy and obvious, but it’s getting late).
