Real carpaccio is completely raw. You can see in the pic they cooked the outside a little.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:Is that raw?
Place also serves tartare. Will try that next time.

Reiterating, the carpaccio from the Korean place was excellent. Like beef sashimi. Beef tenderloin of a quality better than any I've had. Was served with a sesame soy sauce and wasabi on the side. Will definitely be ordering it again.
Went back to Dae Jang Keum. This time got the deep-fried squid. Also very good.
Was really looking forward to trying the raw beef tartare after having the carpaccio. Looked awesome at first. Unlike most tartares I've had it wasn't ground beef. It was just cut in much smaller pieces than the carpaccio. Same high quality tenderloin.
Was seriously bummed when I tried it. They marinated it in a overpowering sweet sauce. Honestly, ruined my day.

FYI for the board. When you have hot oil in a deep fryer and put to much stuff in it, it will boil over quickly and get on your counter. This will greatly upset your wife. I recommend you don't do this

I'm going to call it a first time user mistake. I'm not sure me taking pictures would have made her more happy

At least it sounds like you didn't have a fire, which is a good thing.aualum06 wrote:The Pantry wrote:lol! Good luck! Please send pics of the deep fryer later.

Theres that commercial an insurance company runs around Thanksgiving, saying that there will be like 1500 house fires this Thanksgiving due to deep frying turkeys on your deck. First time we tried it, it was on the grass in my back yard. It did come over the top and spill out to the grass. Killed the grass as I recall, but nothing more. The next time when my brother in law had it at his place, we deep fried one and we put water in first and then the turkey to get an idea how much oil we'd need to cover the bird but not spill over. Live and learn.
There are like 1500 home fires a year on Thanksgiving day. Many caused by deep frying.

It's smoking season. Apparently. Pork shoulders for a communion last night. Brisket tonight. I need to cook ~ 110 lbs of pork next Saturday. And then another communion. And then school fair on the 1st. I'm gonna be burned out. Wags you want to buy my trailer?

I’m cutting back on work and tailgates now that the kid is done. Gonna be more poor than I am and less likely to need it.
That said, I’ve always lived vicariously through your efforts. I’d love to see pics of the pork when done.

Re: The Cooking Thread - Paleo - Baking - Grilling - Q - Sushi - Whatcha got?
Como's restaurant (Ferndale) reopened today. My in-laws bought the place in '55 and owned it a couple years before selling. They were the ones that originally named it Como's.
My ex-SIL went to check it out this afternoon. Apparently they passed out cards asking today's patrons for their memories of the place over the years. My SIL filled it out and left her name and phone number. I suspect they will be calling her back for more details.
She said the place looks good and the food is good, but a little pricey. Said she had spaghetti squash lasagna and a salad. I looked for an online menu but haven't found one yet.
Look inside 'clean' new Como's pizzeria, to debut Monday

I'm going to try to fit 13 of these on the trailer in a few hours. Hope it works.

My FIL is somehow involved with putting on a luncheon tomorrow for veterans and their families. I am not going on site. I am just cooking here, wrapping everything in the big cooler, and someone is going to pick it up from me in the morning.

Not a huge fan of cheddar. With no provolone option will switch to mozzarella next time.
Never add beets to a Jets salad. They fuck you every time with only a slice or two for the buck fifty they charge.

After 4 rounds of seasoning and two bottles of gas this thing is getting some color. Will do two more rounds before meating it, hopefully this weekend. The Pantry wrote:Haven't won anything but a Superbowl square in over 30 years but discovered I won a 17" Blackstone griddle through a raffle. Re: The Cooking Thread - Paleo - Baking - Grilling - Q - Sushi - Whatcha got?
Company decided to celebrate some minor business victories today. Had lunch catered in from Detroit BBQ Company. Second time they've used them in the past 3 years. Today, it all came in catering boxes. No smoking trailer like last time. St. Louis ribs were well underdone but the pulled pork was decent. Didn't try the pulled chicken because most places fuck that up.
No brisket or sausage this time. Sides were lame, either cold (corn on the cob), over-salted ("cheesy potatoes" were a mess), or over-sugared (smoked baked beans).
