Assuming it was an accident (that they thought they were shooting down some kind of US plane that was retaliating for the missile strikes)...is Trump afraid of somehow being blamed for this (because he escalated the situation)?

There's no way we're just figuring this out today. We had to have known almost immediately (or very quickly) it was shot down. So...why the silence? Who are we protecting?

He’s not afraid of saying that they shot it down. He just doesn’t want to fuck up this win that fell right into his lap. Unless something insane happens, he got a win out of this. It looks like 19 flights left the airport in the hours after the attack. Flights to Frankfurt, Dubai, Hong Kong, Moscow, Vienna, Doha, Istanbul.... and of course the one to Ukraine.

The traffic pattern at the airport that morning, with the exception of the crash, was much like patterns the previous four Wednesdays. On Jan. 1, 20 flights took off before noon. On the Wednesday before that, there were 26.

This Wednesday, Flight 752 took off nearly an hour behind schedule. A Ukrainian official on Friday said the delay was caused by the unloading of cargo from the plane.

The two flights that were scheduled to take off right after the Ukrainian jet were canceled, according to FlightAware. Both were bound for Istanbul.

But at least eight flights operated by Iran Air flew out of Imam Khomeini airport in the hours after the crash, the data shows. Other airlines whose flights took off shortly after the crash included Emirates, Turkish Airlines and Mahan Air, another Iranian carrier.
