It nearly cleared that one but would more than likely hit another part of the mountain where they were..He was boxed in and disoriented with no visual reference. Also the NTSB walked that statement back.

Maybe....Hovering is hard to do and you need outside visual references to do it, and you can't just stop on a dime. Also

There's no emergency/auto-pilot like thingy that could safely arrest forward speed and take the thing straight up at the push of a button? Seems like that should have been invented by now and every helicopter pilot would want one.

Thought I heard there’s topographic systems available to let the pilot know his surroundings but this model wasn’t equipped.
