For what it's worth, I feel like we've somehow won the Big Ten this year with our coach. Yeah, not on the field the way we'd like but our coach is not a meat head, he's recruiting well and he's setting a much better example.

The Ragin Cajuns upset Iowa State 31-14

Arkansas State on the verge of upsetting Kstate. Good ending with Kstate finally getting a fg conversion to go up 3 followed by Arkansas St driving down the field for the go ahead TD. It's 35-31 ArkSt with ~20 seconds left and KSU at midfield

FSU has a decent amount of fans. GT just had their best drive (big pass play to inside the 10) stall out and end in a blocked FG

I've watched a few games on and off today. A couple of observations:

- seems boring. Maybe it's the lack of crowd. Maybe it's the white corporate structure trying to tell me that I should care about unpaid (mostly) black athletes entertaining me in the middle of a pandemic.

- no real match ups worth watching.

- absence of Big Ten games though I don't think that would matter.

- the fact that some people are trying to pretend that life is normal when nothing could be farther from the truth.

I don't know.. just not feeling it.

Trevor Lawrence (white, for the racists out there that care about that kind of stuff) doesn't look like he's missed a beat from last year. Just had a wide open wr drop the ball in the back of the endzone on a deep ball. Got inside the 5 anyways and just got his second walk in touchdown

Etienne looking like he shouldn't play past the first half, monster and won't be needed. Sr rbs that talented are crazy to me. Only have so many hits and RB the number 1 position that should go pro even with how low they're valued in the draft

My guess is they were watching CFB today and thinking dear sweet Jesus, what have we done?
And I still think it’s a better idea to suspend the season for amateur athletes, but I don’t have a vote.

I hear ya on the amateur athlete thing, but I think the players/staff etc would be okay. Institute a very controlled environment, testing, etc.

My main concern is the off campus stuff and the message having a season would send. Of course, they're already kinda doing whatever they want (cases have spiked), but I feel like this would be fuel to the fire.

I'm not saying you don't have a season just because parents don't know how to raise their children to behave responsibly.. it would just be one of my primary concerns.

https://www.burntorangenation.com/2020/6/11/21288458/bj-foster-fractured-hand-texas-longhorns-injuries-peter-mpagi-derrian-brown

“B.J. Foster fractured the fifth metacarpal in his hand,” Texas head coach Tom Herman said on Thursday. “He got in a fight with a car bumper after he came out to a parking lot and his car bumper was dinged up and nobody left a note. He got a little angry and decided he was going to take it out on the car bumper. We had a long conversation on that. Every time, in my 45 years on a planet, when a player gets in a fight with an inanimate object, usually the inanimate object wins.”

It would be nice if teams in the B1G did a better job policing those on the sidelines who are supposed to be masked than the NFL did today. First of all, those neck gaiters have been shown to be ineffective and potentially harmful, and that style was being worn all over the place today—with team logos on them, of course, which fans can purchase online and at team stores. And of the proper masks I saw, a bunch of the wearers were showing off their nose penises. Ridiculous.

What type of mask to wear, controversial since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, is the center of new debate following an article by Duke researchers that many took as a warning to not wear neck gaiters. According to Martin Fischer, associate research professor in the department of chemistry and one of the main researchers of the article, that’s not the right interpretation.
...
“Seeing the media somewhat misquote and misinterpret the data was a big downer,” Fischer said.

I really haven't thought much about the B1G returning before this weekend to be honest. I figured College football was a pipe dream this year, as much for optical reasons as for health-related reasons. Now that it appears certain to happen and I've seen other teams making a go at it, I guess I was forced to think about it a little bit more. No one asked but my .02 is I don't really have a hard line "they should" or "they shouldn't". I'm sick of blowhards. I think anyone with a brain understands the optics aspect of the thing and how this situation continues to sharpen (not blur) the line between being a professional college revenue sport athlete and true amateur sports. And I don't think it's ok to put that burden on college kids - of making a decision between being taken advantage of vs. showcasing themselves vs. opting out. But most of these kids have parents and support systems that are experienced and educated enough to understand what is going on. If they STILL want to play, and are ok with the risks and the system in place, I don't really think it's my place to tell them they're wrong. As fans we have nothing at stake. Will the season fall apart? Who the F knows.

I think Stanley was probably relieved when the B1G announced football was over so that he could tell students to stay home. I think he probably knew all along that was the proper thing to do but he couldn't do it because "morally" it would look terrible to try to play football with no students on campus. But the SEC, B12, ACC, OSU, Nebraska, etc have basically said we're going the NFL route, fuck optics. Ok. I think Stanley and the other Presidents who initially voted no, are going to vote yes this time around because of pressure (not to mention some advances in planning and testing, etc).

This is gonna happen. Wags put your boner away, there are kids here.

But I'm still watching.

NFL was pretty damn good today. I have to think this is going to cause a shift in the preseason model. Teams are still going to want time to evaluate rookies/UDFAs. But it's been pretty evident that the pros don't need much if any ramp up time. 4 games is absurd.
