Jesus. Guy who once created the "Lake Lansing Message Board" as a spoof or the RCMB, has a house that, up tto last night, was safe. Now another damn is collapsed?.
Couple of texts to me: They’re using Midland High as an evacuation center (well onto high ground), not sure how they are spacing people
Dow High is gonna get damaged by the waters, usually it’s just the athletic area that gets washed out but I suspect some of the school gets damaged by this
Wixom Lake is now gone and rebuilding those fans won’t be cheap. If not rebuilt all those cottages are worthless. Same thing if Sanford fails
My brother’s in laws live on Sanford lake. They evacuated to my brother’s house on Monday
Downtown comments are way overstated. Main Street is probably 20 feet above the farmers market area. It would get halfway up the hill. But the true downtown (Main Street and NE) would be fine. It’s the backs of some buildings facing the flood plain that will get it worse than ever before

When Rainbow Lake Dam collapsed several years ago they tried to get the MiDNR to rebuild it for them. DNR told them they would but lake would have to be opened up to public access. Rainbow Lake property owners ended up footing the bill.

Red Cedar on campus is in rough shape. Dudes in katlyaks were entertaining. Down by Sparty and over into Beal Gardens are totally flooded. Maybe 3-4 feet deep in parts.

Probably going to have to flip the A/C switch to "on" today. Not a huge fan of that.

This weather sucks.. but we had a good, cool spring. Hard to complain.
Heading out for a long bike ride.. maybe some running at the track afterwards. Then mowing.

Yep, getting ready to ride before it gets too hot, thinking about Armada and back.

I went on a shorter ride (about 16 miles), stopped by the track for 6 X 100 meter strides, made it back home.Floyd Robertson wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:This weather sucks.. but we had a good, cool spring. Hard to complain.

Why not give your dad’s shorts a much deserved rest and buy your own damn shorts, ya cheapskate.

House got to 85 yesterday, it's at a crisp 73 for the rest of the week. I'm to fat for that heat

Yeah, but the kids are all moved out. The only one I have around to embarrass right now is my granddaughter, and she's not easily embarrassed

AC is programmed for 78 during the day. Kicks down to 72 at night. Between that and the bedroom fan it's sleep-able.

Where can I move down south that is near water, but isn’t a POS?

I prefer the mountains to the ocean (my idea of hell) - fond of western NC. Beautiful areas in and around Asheville. Not a ton of lakes. Lake Lure is gorgeous. Lake Junaluska is a small lake - pretty much where I grew up. East Tennessee has Lake Douglas. Maybe 45-50 minutes from Knoxville. Couple of hours North of Chattanooga. Chattanooga is a nice town.
North Georgia is beautiful and has some lakes but not a ton of industry or job opportunities.
The south really benefited from the TVA relative to water.. (not to mention bringing electricity to the rural south).
This time last year, I owned a beautiful little house in lovely town I would've sold you ("Birthplace of Robert J Sakimano" plaque was optimal). Nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains, walking distance to shops, restaurants, breweries and boutiques.

Beauty. I haven't been to da U.P. in while. Used to go up all the time as a teenager/early 20s to fish and camp. Looks like a road I used to drive to get to one of my favorite spots, Lake Nawakwa. It was a 30 min(?) drive down a sand road that looked like that, in the good parts.

I’ve fished it a few times. It’s about 30 minutes East of our cabin.
