Herman Miller Chairs...
...what say you??? Do I really need to spend ~$1200 for a good chair? I'm thru with shitty "gaming" chairs. My back is killing me.

Chairs? They are pieces of furniture to sit on. Smaller than a couch, bigger than a stool.

Re: Herman Miller Chairs...
Last place I worked was cheap as fuck. There were chairs there that probably dated back to the 60's. A heavy set guy in the office broke his one day. Took it out in the shop and welded the problem himself.
If you wanted a comfortable chair you had to bring your own. Many did. The guy running the design room brought in a really awesome Herman Miller. Comfortable as hell despite the mesh seat and back it had. Said he paid $1100 for it and that was over 10 years ago.

I don't think you need a $1200 Herman Miller to ease your back pain. I've had lower back pain for years and I bought the Amazon Executive a couple years ago for like $110 and haven't had any issues with pain. If you think you need something a little more plush that doesn't break the bank, La-Z-Boy makes some decent ones in the $300-400 range.

Reluctantly pulled the trigger on this:

We'll see if it's all it's cracked up to be. I spend 12+ hours a day in it.

I don't understand. Same size as a regular desk. It just has a crank to raise the height of it. Two in one essentially. You just need to relocate your chair when you're standing.

Or remove the chair from the equation and it's a smaller footprint

And obviously caveat with it hasn't solved all of my problems. But I know how much worse it would/could be with sitting for 10 hours a day.

My take is if it will bring you comfort, help avoid chronic pain and save on future doctors visits/medical bills throughout the years $1200 seems like it would be worth every penny. Can you write it off?

The thing about office furniture too, I've worked in corporations for 20+ years and I can't tell you how many times I've seen an office move or remodeling go down and so many items like that goes in the trash. Also, company policy doesn't allow people to take stuff because it could cause issues with employees ebaying stufff off or people in other departments complaining they didn't get anything so they opt to just throw shit out or donate it if they can. We live in such a disposable culture.

State of Michigan auctions a lot of that crap off. Chairs, filing cabinets, desks, computers, monitors, copiers, printers, you name it and you could probably find the office equipment of someone's dreams.

Re: Herman Miller Chairs...
I had the Herman Miller Aeron chair where I worked (I have since retired). It was a very comfortable and well built chair, but I doubt I would pay the money for home use. My personal feeling is that there are a wide range of body types and no one chair fits everyone. I think a person needs to use a chair for a week or two to see if it is going to work for them. Where I worked, we had a local office supply company that would allow us to test chairs for a month or so.
That said, I did see a fairly decent deal on an Aeron today and the company has a 10% off coupon for new customers.

Re: Herman Miller Chairs...
Chair arrived today. I will say it is very comfortable. I don't know if it's $1200+ comfortable, but it has a 12 year warranty & will hopefully be the last chair I buy. Since I work from home, this is effectively an office chair for me. I spend 12+ hours a day in it & ~30 cents/day for 12 years doesn't seem unreasonable to avoid back pain.
The $189 Ficmax gaming chair this is replacing lasted less than 2 years. "Leather" was peeling. Armrest cracked. Had to add additional padding to back & seat. Total crap.
I also bought one of those Sharper Image massage chairs for tMrs. (black leather with curved wood arms) for about the same price as the HM almost 15 years ago & it's still going strong & looks great. Turned out well.

Re: Herman Miller Chairs...
Find a local office furniture place where you live.
They should have a pre-owned/reconditioned department where you can pick up a good chair from Herman Miller, Steelcase or Haworth for at least 50% of what they sell for when new at retail.
Got to believe there is and will be an abundance of pre-owned office furniture as we see a transition to more people working and offices adjust to fewer chairs/desks.
Crandall Office Furniture (Greenville, MI) sells refurbed Herman Miller furniture. if you want an Herman Miller Aeron, they come in 3 sizes (explained on the link) and the refurbished are $549.00 ea with free shipping.

Too bad PhoneSoap doesn’t make a gaming chair. I could kick Heat’s ass in Crossfire and defunk my junk at the same time.

"Task Chair does not come with Arms by Default, you will need to upgrade for an additional $102.85 to have them."
Not sure why they capitalized "Arms" and "Default". Is that an FPS game?
By the time you add all the "extras" to make it usable, it's still over $1k. Also, the lead time on this site is 6-8 weeks.

That's why you buy refurbished. Our school district bought refurbished/reconditioned chairs for the HS and two middle schools. In Steelcase' back yard and Herman Miller is one county over.
There are multiple regional companies that buy up excess office furniture from companies that close regional offices, go out of business or relocate and don't move most or all their office furniture. These companies are often owned and run by people who worked for office furniture dealers and realized they could buy in large lots, disassemble, clean, replace worn parts like castors/wheels with OEM parts. That's why most can offer a 2-3 year warranty.
Herman Miller, Steelcase and Haworth all make quality office seating and there are companies that specialize in refurb market with one brand. I know of one that sells Steelcase refurbished and their ownership has some connections with the Herman Miller dealership but they don't sell Herman Miller refurbished because it could threaten the dealership's business relationship with Herman Miller.

I sat on one of these back when going to work was a thing
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007VB4NE
Friend tried to ?prank? me by removing my chair and replacing it with the above - he was disappointed when I ended up liking it and didn't move back to my old chair. Not having arms was not a problem
