Trump said that he wanted to keep people calm like FDR and Churchill did. Ok, let's look at some quotes, shall we? Trump quoted FDR's line "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." In that very same speech (1933 Inauguration), FDR said:

"a host of unemployed citizens face the grim problem of existence, and an equally great number toil with little return. Only a foolish optimist can deny the dark realities of the moment."

From his 1942 State Of the Union speech, less than 2 months after Pearl Harbor:

"We have already tasted defeat. We may suffer further setbacks. We must face the fact of a hard war, a long war, a bloody war, a costly war."

As for Churchill, he inspired with confidence, not by hiding the truths of what they faced. He never even came close to downplaying the Nazi threat of their capabilities (he was, in fact, accused of the opposite throughout the 1930s). Also, Trump's claim of Churchill saying Keep Calm and Carry On? That was a slogan created and never really used during WWII. It resurfaced in the 2000s and became something for Tshirts and coffee mugs.
