Michigan Folks.. Have Y'all Turned On Your Heat/Furnace Yet This Fall?
we've had plenty of chilly mornings in East Lansing, but I'm a big "put a sweatshirt on" kind of guy (I tend to like it chilly in the house, anyway. We keep the heat on around 64-65 in the winter, turn it to 60 or so at night).
We haven't clicked the heat on yet, but we have used a little electric space heater in our living room on a couple of mornings.

Bedroom has carpet and is a little warmer than the rest of the house, so heat is off at night. Wood floors elsewhere, and when the temp dips to 64° inside, Mrs. GreenWay turns on the heat to get to 68°-70° during the day. If she didn’t turn on the heat, I would have.

Wife did just yesterday. Walked in, and it smelled, I don't know how to describe it, "Dusty" "Warm"???? "Depressing". No open windows with a fresh breeze.

yeah, we almost always have a window cracked, as I thrive on the fresh air.DWags wrote:Wife did just yesterday. Walked in, and it smelled, I don't know how to describe it, "Dusty" "Warm"???? "Depressing". No open windows with a fresh breeze.
of course, I'm sitting here right now in jeans, boots, a t-shirt, and a hooded sweatshirt with a flannel shirt buttoned up over it.
as I said, I imagine, we'll get that seasonal smell of warmed up dust blowing through our heating ducts pretty soon.

It can get a little funky smelling in a closed setting with two old people whose skin is molting.

Yeah I cant describe that first smell. “Warmed up dust” I guess is accurate. It’s depressing.

Similar to the first few seconds of a summer rain after weeks of drought.

I'd point and laugh, but that seems just pointless in Michigan (cause soon enough, we will all get it).

Yeah, couple weeks ago when some nights were chilly, but it hasn't run much. Like it cool in the house but can't stand getting out of the shower to really cool air. The thermostat is set to kick the temp up to a balmy 66° in the morning then back down to 62 when I leave for work.

Doesn't live far from Christmas, MI. I propose we all send our Christmas cards up there for him to get postmarked at the Christmas post office.tGreenWay wrote:Motown Spartan wrote:It’s fucking snowing up here right now!

Good idea. Next year, before Halloween, we can send someone to Hell for the same reason.

Good idea. Next year, before April Fool’s Day, we can send someone to Ann Arbor for the same reason.

Natural gas bills have been almost nothing since May. Just got the lowest electric bill I can recall...$45.

Not the furnace yet, but we have run the gas fireplace a couple times already, which basically warms up our entire upstairs pretty quick.

I slept in until 5:30, woke up and the lovely wife had clicked on the heat.
31 degrees in East Lansing, so not exactly unheard of.

Yes, I remember your comments from last year and thought of you as I posted. You’re definitely an outlier. Sixty-two degrees wouldn’t be pleasant for me, and life is too short to live unpleasantly if you’re able to do something about it.

It was 45° when I got up this morning. Ditched the shorts and t-shirt in favor of sweats. When that didn’t work, the furnace was the next option. Happy I did it.

Sometime in September, but the climate control is set during the summer to turn the heat on when the temp in the house is below 60.
