Real Estate
I'm getting a divorce and giving my wife all of my shit. Don't be surprised to find me bleeding on the ground at a tailgate.

Re: Real Estate
Simple answer, look for another house, unless you are willing to wait out the divorce process in hopes the final decree awards her custody of the house.

Yeah, I'd look elsewhere. Sounds like they could put you on their schedule. Unless you can be patient. Then really make sure the title has no claims.
Sounds too messy for me.

If ex's parents cut her a check for $50k, she is going to have to pay taxes on it, right?

Gift tax kicks in after $20k/person.

It's per person, so each parent can give $14k (not sure why I thought it was 20). But then there's the lifetime exemption, so taxes are not likely.

Don't worry, it will likely come back and bite me in the ass when I end up in a one bedroom apartment enjoying the icehouse I purchased with the leftovers of my paycheck.
