Jordan couldn't just jump to Adidas whenever he wanted...
If that non compete clause included anything about going to a specific school then it's against NCAA rules. You still can't pay players to go to a specific school.

Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker shares thoughts on Payton Thorne’s transfer to Auburn
https://sports.yahoo.com/michigan-state-head-coach-mel-170052334.html
Spartans head coach Mel Tucker recently spoke to the media during a recruiting camp at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. During his availability, the topic of Thorne’s transfer was discussed. Tucker says that he feels that his team will rebound following the loss of Thorne, but has nothing but great things to say about him.
“I just wish Payton the very best of luck,” Tucker said. “He’s a really good player, a better person, got a great family. We wish him well.”
Tucker also shared his thoughts on the transfer portal as a whole. Of course, there are plenty of reasons for a college athlete to transfer to another school, could one reason be the idea of “greener pastures?” Tucker says yes.
“We’ve seen it right? We’ve gotten guys out of the portal, and it’s really common. So, I don’t think it’s anything that anyone should be surprised about,” Tucker said.

Hoping for a NC for him, if MSU doesn't win it.

Maybe Tucker's evaluation was spot on?

More evidence that Kenneth Walker should have won the Heisman. He carried MSU that entire year.

I agree about the Heisman, but Thornes dime to Reed on 4th and one. Then following it up with a 2 pointer to Moseley weren’t flukes. He’s a good qb.

https://www.si.com/college/auburn/football/payton-thorne-new-favorite-to-win-auburn-football-quarterback-battle-over-robby-ashford
BetOnline released odds for college football week one starting quarterbacks, with Robby Ashford over Payton Thorne. Ashford was -140, Thorne +100.
Overnight, the line has shifted dramatically in Thorne's favor. On July 25th Thorne became the favorite to win the battle:
Payton Thorne: -200
Robby Ashford: +150
Setting odds on who win the job before he’s been through an official practice is pretty silly.

While I wish Thorne well, he’s old news. Moving forward, focusing on Noah Kim or whomever wins the QB job. Let’s get this.

Really hoping Thorne does well at Auburn and the new MSU QB does better at MSU.

Yep. Both him and Rocky never need to buy a beer in a bar I’m in because of their Michigan victories. I really think Thorne can play.

That's what those numbers and the score told me. He is playing for a team that replaces the QB when the score is lopsided, regardless of when in the game it happens.

And Auburn said they were going to play their backup (more of a running threat). He actually got in, in the 1st quarter for goal line packages/plays and ran for 3 TDs in the 2nd quarter.

He's still got to flush some of that B1G 10 QB out of his system.

Seemed like PT was aiming the ball with that pass, as if he was mostly concerned with not throwing a pick. Gotta play smart and still be instinctive. Hesitation will get him and his teammates killed, and we don’t need any more dead CFB players.

Sort of sounds like two QB's might be better than one in this case. Thorne for before the red zone and the other one for scoring from the 20 on in.

2 QBs might be better than 1, when you're playing UMASS.
We'll see how it works out when they play A&M and Georgia later this month.

Looks like he got benched. 46 yards in the first half at a&m and they put the backup in.

We should all send thank you notes to Kenneth Walker. Thorne should give Walker the Chevy truck he got through an NIL deal at Auburn and Tucker should give Walker all the money he ever earned at MSU, and whatever he gets paid out. Also, Walker should be retroactively given a Heisman.

It should teach everyone that the heisman (voted on by fat aging writers who don’t know anything) is a bullshit award and that the Walter camp award (voted in by fat aging coaches who know things) is the one that everyone should care about. Fuck the heisman.Turtleneck wrote:We should all send thank you notes to Kenneth Walker. Thorne played well enough for Auburn to win today. A bunch of drops on good throws. I still think he's way better than what we have now.
